Take the lane, when there are more than one rider take more of the lane. That is the law, and the law of survival. My attorney, Larry Parker says he will get me a couple million if you violate me and we catch you. Hit and run or yield to cyclists, your choice.

As someone stated earlier there are rude people in every user group.
Me personally? I just be courteous and go around whether on the road or on the trail.
    Why sweat the small stuff?

Bikes have as much right to the road as I do when driving.
Slow down and be courteous. If it delays me a few minutes whatever.
In that few minutes i have a chance to reflect on how much I'd rather be riding with them than in my car.

I agree that bikes have as much right to the road as anyone but there are certain riders that exert that right to the extreme. They ride in the traffic lane when there is plenty of room on the shoulder. Most people do not think that bikes should be on the road. The police believe we are just a nuisance and would rather ticket us than protect us. .

    Pretty much sums it up.

I pay special attention and try to be careful around bicycles, motorcycles and pedestrians when i'm driving a car. Some of them are very wise and cautious while others just don't care about their about safety. They seem to think they are invincible…………. Idiots are out there

"As much right" is the key words here. Cyclists and motorists SHARE the road. Cyclists don't own it. If i have to slow down in order to pass a cyclist, they are probably obstructing traffic. This is not sharing the road, its bogarting it. As a cyclist, i actually enjoy seeing others riding and even envy them when i'm driving past. I think we should be free to enjoy our passion, stay fit, and decrease our carbon footprint. But, i have encountered more than one occurrence of even 3-5 abreast on a skinny two lane curving road. They were even spilling over into the oncoming traffic lane and would not allow traffic to pass. Speed limit on this particular road is 50... they (and i for 2 miles) were doing 15.

Funny thing this came up, a "cyclist" ran a red while I Had a green light going left no more than 2 hours ago. He knew he was in the wrong. He justed stared forward and not even acknowledging me.

Correction. A person on a bicycle cannot spill into traffic because a person on a bicycle IS traffic. What is so difficult about going around them. Would you be whining about them if they were a slow cement truck.

    As soon as you do the following;

-drive according to the posted speed limit
-don't text, check you're smart phone while driving
-come to complete stop at stop signs
-don't cross solid white or yellow lines
    -properly use turn signals

I will ride single file. Why can't these fat, sedentary, motorists obey the law? What's so hard about that?

    Okay: Edited:

I think some of the (my) frustration is caused by one of two things:
    1. Large groups of cyclists riding multiple riders abreast that causes them to spill into the lanes of traffic where cars are going the speed limit and the cyclists are not.
    2. Large groups of cyclists who feel that if the first guy in the peleton made the yellow light, then the red light doesn't apply to them.

Notice I used the term "cyclists" and didn't specify what kind. I've seen all kinds do this stuff and it's aggravating.

Yes, sometimes it is possible to simply go around them. Other times it is not. If traffic is flowing at 50 MPH in a 50 MPH zone, then a vehicle (bike or car) that is going significantly less and is backing up traffic, then that vehicle (car or bike) is in violation of:
22400. (a) No person shall drive upon a highway at such a slow
speed as to impede or block the normal and reasonable movement of
traffic unless the reduced speed is necessary for safe operation,
because of a grade, or in compliance with law.

    Flame on!

For the sake of accuracy, "impede" means you cannot get around. It does not mean that you are inconvienced for a few seconds by having to push on your brake pedal and turn your steering wheel.

Holy F! Its the weekend. Doesn't everyone have something better to do than read a thread on a mountain bike forum that has absolutely nothing to do with mountain bikes? And yes, I just read the whole thing too.

Frankly, I'm so tired from my mountain bike ride today that reading is just about the only thing I have enough energy to do. Besides lifting a beer glass.
