Hey whats up... So I am new to this whole forum thing but someone I met on the trail the other day told me about this site. Maybe someone can help me out here I met this guy riding a week and a half ago or so, his name was Rob and was kind of big to be a mountain biker.. I was stopped on the side of the trail with my girlfriend with a flat tire. He rode by then came back to help. He informed me that he was a bike mechanic and that I was lucky he rode by. Now at first I thought he could be helpful but he wouldn't stop looking at my chick. He got off his bike and proceeded to start eating a cliff bar once he wolfed that down and started on his second he came over to my bike. By this time the flat was fixed but he assured me that my bike needed his attention. As he hung the second cliff bar from his mouth he flipped my bike over and scratched my carbon bars, and started to fiddle with my derailleurs. After a couple of minutes he flipped it back over and began to mess with the settings on my shocks. I have no idea who this guy thought he was but I had no issues with my bike at all and had just recently taken the bike to get serviced. Through this whole ordeal this SOB kept leering at my girlfriend. I was heated and finally told this jack off to start riding. He looked at me as if I was supposed to feed him or pay for this "work" he just did. He then said that he was "outs dog" and rode off. I calmed down and began to start riding, After 100 yards or so my chain fell off and sucked into the cassette. I fixed what Rob so kindly did and reset all my shock settings. By this time my girlfriend who was very creeped out by this guy and I were laughing at what we thought was some kind of practical joke. When we began riding again we got to one of the more mild climbs and started going up, we could see Rob pushing his bike up the hill but as he got to the top he jumped back on wiped his brow and let out this loud groan. I could not figure out what was going on. So as we got to the top and on to our second more technical climb we see Rob 1/4 of the way up pushing his bike, we climb up and get to the top where there was a couple of riders, we stopped rested a minute or two and heard the same loud groan as before then saw Rob crest the hill wiping his brow and talking about how he just cleaned that one!. My girlfriend and I looked at each other and lost it laughing like mad. Normally I wouldnt go on and on about something like this but this obscure and crazy incident has been a topic of discussion for a couple of days in my house usually followed by a good laugh. Do any of you know this guy, whats his deal, and why does he act the way he does? Does he represent this online community? And my biggest question does anyone know why he feels he can wrench a bike?

Welcome, young grasshopper I see that you have a lot to learn... never... I say NEVER let anyone touch your bike unless you know who they are and if they know what they are doing. sorry you had to learn this the hard way... guy sounds like an a$$... doesn't sound like anybody in our Tribe. As Genus said, come out to one of the Newbie Rides, bring your girl friend and meet everyone. I think you'll find a pretty good group of friendly riders. OMR
