I was just thinking about this last weekend after we did the epic Skyline loop. I think maybe there should be a separate thread just for Big Bear places to go for brews or eats after the ride. So far, I have yet to find a favorite up there. We tried Old Country Inn and it was just OK, basic overpriced hamburgers and diner food, but it did have a nice patio. I always try to give some of the "mom and pop" type places my patronage over places like Carl's Jr

The brewery in the old yellow barn looking building is not bad. but not great either, the out door patio in the front is too close to the hwy traffic. And the food was just average. I think that I may have read there is another brewery in the works somewhere up there? I think it is supposed to be a little nicer.

Anyone have a favorite place in big bear?

My in-laws live up there so we've been making 10+ treks to their home each year for over 20 years. Every time we find a decent place it disappears in a few seasons. Either it's too high-end and the locals won't support it or management/ownership changes and the quality goes down the drain. El Montana was a favorite but it seems like the quality changes with the seasons. The Mexican joint in the village is pretty good but with its "prime" location come high $ food & drink. The Italian restaurant on the other end of town in the Vons parking lot is usually OK but nothing too creative.

For the last two seasons, our favorite has been a new, upscale (for Big Bear) burger joint, Get the Burger, located at the intersection of BB Blvd and Foxfire. For decades it was the home of Madame Wong's Imperial Chinese Palace :?:. I don't know anyone who went there. The new place has above average burgers and a decent selection of craft beers. It's too "rich" for my in-laws but for those under 70 is seems to please all. Just don't be in a rush around lunch time. http://gettheburger.com/

Toomies Thai, Minnesota Ave, Bend, Or After a day of paddling and a long ride back to the car the food is lite and good. After that head around the corner to the Deschutes Brew Public house or go the other way to the ice cream/candy shop. It is in preppy downtown Bend. The town has re-invented itself after years of decay. Now it's the only town on the east side of the Cascades.

Last time we were up there, we had Saucy Mama's (it's on Pine Knot) - good food and different beers, too. Indoor and outdoor seating. I still like Hacienda on the Blvd; they have good food and a full bar.
