Too many places to mention as I love comparing food joints but if you're into the Chipotle burrito/bowl thing, give these a try:

    http://freebirds.com/ - Orange

    http://www.caferio.com/ - Tustin, Costa Mesa

Both offer a bigger menu and more choices for contents. I like Chipotle but I would rather go to either of these instead.

I have three for now, no health food, I eat healthy at home.

    EL CHARRO Restaurant
12819 Venice Blvd. Los Angeles. Next to the Carniceria
Seriously the best Chile Verde I have ever come across.
Kick at the counter or one of the few booths.

Christines Restaurant (mexican done their way)
    1197 Main Street, Brawley, CA.
Get a special quesadilla to share.
Every thing is perfect, worth the drive. Seriously.

    Mandarin King
1223 North Coast Highway, Laguna Beach
    Best Chinese I can find.

Have you been to Cafe 301 around the corner on Sante Fe? I like it better there and it's more of a hole in the wall Mexican...

    What: Pho 79 (viet)
Where: Garden Grove near hazard and brookhurst.
Recommended Dish: Any combination of Pho Bo, it really doesnt matter. In fact it wouldnt matter if they didn't have any, noodles or veggies, the only reason you come here is for the broth. This is the best pho you will ever eat, I was going to monologue, but cliche aside words do not do it justice.
Avoid: Pho Gah, its averageness pales so greatly in comparison that you would give up your soup just to smell the pho bo
Popular Amongst: Your average vietnamese who are willing to spend a whopping $6 (Hoah Binh is almost have the price) for a bowl of soup and white americans who consider eating at one of the most cleanly french inspired restaurant a wholly adventurous ethnic outing.

What: Myung Dong Kal Guk Su (Korean Noodle Soup)
Where: Lakewood (they have several locations in socal but this is the closest one)
Recommend: Well since its in the title the kalguksu of course. If you have never tried kalguksu, its like a combination of pho, wonton soup, and ramen, but something still entirely unique. The noodles are extra thick and dough like, and the broth is always uplifting. Great food for rainy days, but too rich to be considered sick food (the minced pork will do that).
Avoid: Cold noodles with skate, weird in pretty much every way.
Popular Amongst: apparently no one, generally I make the only other party. I am not sure why.

    What: Long Beach Thai
Where: Redondo and Anaheim in Long Beach
Recommend: Your typical thai dishes, if you enjoy thai food you already have your favorites to measure against. In keeping up the spirit of soup, the thai boat noodle soup is pretty good. I prefer the eggplant curry here to just about any curry.
Avoid: This restaurant if you do not enjoy diarrhea, instead head to del amo and bellflower in Lakewood for Thai Basil.
Popular Amongst: A pretty healthy mix of Cambodians, truly adventurous white people, and those not informed that Pho Hong Phat across the street closes at five.

    What: Taste of India (Indian)
Where: Long Beach blvd and Willow
Recommend: If you are hungry enough to go three item combo (1 item should usually suffice) Go chicken tika masal, any one of the lamb items, and Saag Aloo (spinach and potato dish, pretty much all of their vegetarian dishes are quite good)
Avoid: If you have lactose intolerance
Popular Amongst: Lunch breakers and latinos

    What: La Tiendita (Mexican)
    Where: San Clemente
Recommend: Like any hole in the wall greasy mexican place: The Carne Asada Burrito (hold the sour cream!) Though food isn't amazing, its a lot for what you pay for and after a surf that is all that I want. The lady prefers the lengua.
Avoid: Chorizo Quesadilla, unless thats your thing.
Popular Amongst: Surf crowd that thinks pedro's is overrated, latinos, and anyone interested in the authentic mexican american experience.

Hands down for me #1 is Baja Fish Tacos! Best part is the food quality and consistency from each location is the same + they serve cold beer!!!

Take your pick: Santa Ana, Costa Mesa/Newport, Irvine, Laguna Niguel, Laguna Hills, Norco...

Oh yeah... +1000 for El Tepeyac. I like the new one in La Puente/Industy area. Forget about going for a quick lunch, wait is worth it but you need to bring an appetite to kill a Hollenbeck! Mmmmm....

The owner of the secret spot is just an all around great guy and a pretty good surfer as well.

    Forgot to mention

    What: The Coffee Cup (Breakfast/American)
Where: 4th and Grand, Long Beach
Recommend: The scrambles; my favorite is turkey sausage, mushrooms, avocado, and bell peppers. Home style potatoes and sourdough toast on the side of course, its one of my favorite breakfasts and here its done right. Servers are always super cute.
Avoid: Not bringing cash, surprisingly they don't accept credit.
Popular Amongst: The hipster community, the gay community, and most especially the hip gay community.

    Best places to eat Thread

So I just got back from 5 guys burgers ( or something like that) and I feel like I chucked 11 dollars out the window. I had never tried it before and gave it a shot randomly and it was definitely not worth the money. So whats the best places to eat. Hamburgers? Pizza? Hot dogs? Italian?Mexican? Chinese? Whatever you have, I would appreciate! Just state the:

    1. Name of the restaurant/stand/cart/ establishment/hole in the wall
    2. Location
    3. Whats the best thing to get there, why, and how much $$$.

    Heres mine:

    1. Knowlwoods
    2. Irvine
    3. Best grilled chicken sandwhich with huge servings. Probably will run you 10 bucks for a meal!

    Thanks alot and Happy Meals!

Pepy's Galley, beside the Venice Bowling alley. Cheap. Great food. I recommend the blue berry pancakes and the chilaquilles. http://www.yelp.com/biz/pepys-galley-los-angeles

Tinto, Weho. On Samo blvd. Best paella in LA. Tops the Bazaar, even Las Paellas. Not cheap. Almost reasonable. Almost. http://www.tintotapas.com/

El Parian. Pico blvd. Todo ghetto taco place. Fantastic hand made yellow corn tortillas. Love the birria, the carnitas, and the flank steak asada is pretty good. Cheap. http://www.yelp.com/biz/el-parian-restaurant-los-angeles

Golden Deli, Las Tunas Dr. San Gab. Vietnamese fast food. I always order the grilled pork, baked egg and imperial roll plate. Vietnamese broken rice is bomb. Cheap. http://goldendelirestaurant.com/

Half and half tea house. Da best boba in the west coast. Bar none. Reasonable. http://www.yelp.com/biz/half-and-half-tea-house-monterey-park

Santouka Ramen, inside Mitsuwa grocers on Centinela in LA. Miso Ramen combo with marinated salmon egg on rice bowl side. 15 bucks for a meal at a grocery is not cheap for me. But oooooh so good. http://www.yelp.com/biz/santouka-ramen-los-angeles

5 Guys Burgers, HB, Aliso Viejo, Laguna Hills... Love the burgers and the selection. Fries are the bomb. Peanuts while you wait. $11 with drink.

Freebird's on Lincoln in Marina Del Rey. Good "Mexican." More than one can eat for $10.

Fresh Brothers Pizza - various locations. Gluten free pizza with the works -- outstanding.
