Luge was in phenomenal shape yesterday! Thanks to all that worked on it!

Coming down from Old Camp yesterday it looked like there was a Starbucks at the flag pole! Never seen so many people there! I'm so thankful that there's no way to shuttle-run the Luge and that it's only like that on rainy weekends!

    Thanks again, guys! Great job!

Jim! you guys did a awesome job on that upper section really cleaned it up where it was super choppy from the brake bumps. Jeff, Boaz and I cleared out a land slide on saturday morning, which ended up turning into a great berm!

I've been off the bike a long time due to a back injury. Rode the Luge today and I had a grin from ear to ear. Thanks to all that have done trail work. the trail is in amazing shape and the berms are awesome. Hopefully the back will hold and I can also give back.

@baja - thanks for the clip! I was unaware just how close we are to the edge in most parts! You are flying in that video! Are you on strava? If so, what time do you think that run was on say death by luge? (So many luge segments kind of hard to keep track of which is the most realistic haha)

ill have to watch that video multiple times before I go out again. I was out there Sunday to ride it and left saying "holy crap the trails so fast now!" Thanks to all those that worked on it! I definitely need a shovel in my hand to learn the trail better.

Great job. I hit up Old Camp Luge Sunday and did notice the additional berms since I last rode on that Gopro run. They are big and sweet!

I am on Strava and usually just compare times on DH Luge non haz or Luge first .8 since the GPS signal gets wonky once you get in the trees sometimes. That run was a 2:49 and it's quick but top guys are 20-30 seconds faster than that which is FAST!

I love how the STRAVA times on the Luge are a minute off the video times on the same runs. I've seen it at least three times. On the previous video, the rider hits the top of the Luge (below the flag hill) at 1:48 and hits the creek bottom at 5:22 roughly. That's 3:34. I have seen 2:30 or 2:45 claimed over and over on this site, but the video never comes close. Mind you - I'm not dissin' on BajaGuy - that was a mighty fast run, but I am pointing out the discrepancy I have seen posted on here multiple times with many fast riders. The video is almost always a minute slower than the time they claim on STRAVA.

Can someone show me a video of a run that matches the claimed sub 3-minute STRAVA time?

Bajaguy indicated he compares the "first .8 mile" segments because the GPS tracker (be it garmin or phone) gets "wonky" past that point, due to the close proximity of switchbacks and down in the canyon under trees. The full Luge segment is about 1.0 mile, but I don't trust the times on those segments because of the GPS issues.

So bajaguy's 2:49 on the first .8 mile segment is fast. He wasn't saying he had 2:49 to the creekbed. Here's a screen shot of where the segment ends, before the left hander with the jumps. My fastest was 2:57. I'd like to say I could beat that now with the improvements but not willing to risk the pain of falling. :)

    I like the "non-hazardous" designation!

Being kind of a lo-tech geezer, I'd just look at my watch at the flag and re-check after the creek crossing. But I also had a 'Timex' segment that started where Bajaguy's video did, at the top of the overall descent, and ended at Cook's. That throws in some flat, a short climb, and a fast pavement descent. Good all-around challenge.

Obvious, but I'll say it anyway.. a bunch of us worked on the trail, and for many it's faster. But for all-- smoother and with more flow. But we only worked on the trail. The slopes above it are steep and still recovering from the fire so landslides continue to be expected. As are uphill riders and walkers, slow riders, riders with mechanicals parked in the middle of the trail, even the occasional horseback rider. So caution is always advised.

Along with that, the "Gap jump" is in the process of failing and should probably be avoided, and the rocky slopes in the first couple hundred yards should be considered in transition, and crossed with no guarantee of safety.

Have fun, but please be careful.

I go off the STW segments or Luge 29 pot holes. They track well most of the time and capture majority of the dh.

For those times, DS is where is at... I guess i missed out!

I dont remember my times but, 2minutes to get off that mountain is Gnarly.... From what i remember, the slower you go, the more stop and go process there will be.
