I have refered people to go to Performance when cost is the issue and not quality when just starting out.
We all didnt buy $5000 bike when we started (I know some did) so just think of it as a good place to drop a little coin and start enjoying biking.
Its ok if you know what you want and they have it in store.

theyI went into your Laguna Hills, CA store yesterday to purchase a Shimano XTR chain. I had brought a price match ad into the store with me from Amazon. I brought the chain up to the counter to buy the chain and showed him my price match ad and he stated we do not match Amazon. I said can you make sure and he checked with the manager who confirmed the policy. I am reviewing the policy on their website and it does not state any websites that they will not match.

    Here is THEIR policy:

    Our Low Price Promise

Performance will match any advertised price on the same item within 90 days of your purchase. Just bring in the ad, even if it's our own, along with your original Performance Bicycle receipt, and we'll gladly refund you 100% of the difference. We will also do the same for you at the time of purchase.

I am very confused by the policies that are implemented at the store level. They completely disregard their Corporate policy.

I realize again why I do not shop at Performance. Big box discounter that is not even the lowest price. THEY SUCK! CHECK Out the latest stuff THE PATH is blowing out. Great store and around the corner from my office.

Just a heads up if you go for the Performance "Lunchtime Shop and Save" which get's you an extra 10% off on Tuesdays. I have notice that the Tustin location almost never gives you the discount unless you "remind" them. I ride Tuesday nights and run over on lunch if I need any last minute stuff. Of the times I've been over in the past year or so, twice I've been headed back to work before I realized I didn't get the sale, and probably 5 of the 6 other times I've had to ask about it after they rung me up and they've gone back and given it to me. Today it happend again (after the item I got rung up for 30 bucks more than the advertised price). In the end they took care of it after I asked about it.

Most employees from the Torrance Store are cool. The one that will nickle and dime you and deny price matching is the older Asian gentleman. Avoid him at all cost if you attempt to price match.

I'm not standing up for them and I haven't visited the Tustin store yet but be cautious on your critism as every human has a bad day. If you found something on Amazon for cheaper why didnt you buy it? There are no lbs that will match online retailers period. I'm sure that there are more than a handful of people in this forum who have recieved good service and good deals from performance as I have. Sometimes I even walk out of the store feeling that I have ripped them off cause I got the shit free. I would refrain from going to the shops expecting good advice from them. If you are looking for advice go to the forum or google it that's what your brain is for. The Laguna Hills store is great!

You always know you're in a good thread when someone's reason for being angry is quickly deflated by sound logic!

Count me as thumbs up for Performance clearance items. I always stop by when I hear their is a 15-20% instore only special and have walked away with some fantastic deals. It's very store dependent so if you find a store with good clearance items you can do real well, plus the return policy rocks. Recently just scored my best deal, 2010 Manitou Minute Pro 100mm 26" fork...$200 out the door. I don't even need it but too good to pass up.

we all have the right to give our opinion on our experience with different retailers. I voiced my opinion (poor experience) and you voiced yours. I personally will never go back to performance bikes. You can patronize the store all you want.
By the way -when your policy is you will match ANY retailer- to me that means ANY- not just the ones that you want to. Also, I contacted corporate back east and the GM of the west contacted me personally and apologized and offered to match the price. I would have to say that was admission that they got their policy wrong on a store level. JUST sayin.
PS the Path does not claim they will match any retailers price.....

FV store blows, carry some damn spare parts for the parts you sell. After you do that, educate your employees.

I went to the new one that opened in Ontario. I was looking at the cheap hard traills for a friend of mine who was looking to get a bike. I asked the sales rep a few simple questions like, ” does the fork have a lockout, how many gears does it have and does the fork have rebound?” The guy had no idea what I was talking about. Nor did he know how to check. He just kept saying, ” I don't know, I'm a roadie”.

I've not been impressed by the sales staff at the Ontario store (they're nice, but sort of generic, like they could be working at Big 5). But their mechanic Matt is a really cool guy. I'll usually talk to him instead, even if I don't need work done.

The Ontario location is where I called and asked if they had a specific bike in stock in a specific size.
They said Yes, so I drove down there to buy it.
    Of course it wasn't there.
The salesperson said he made a mistake.

It was 30 miles round trip and an hour and a half waste of my time.

Passing along some positive comments on Performance...

I had a gift card to spend, so I went to the Tustin shop to grab a couple road tires and some Gu. I got a decent sale price plus the Tuesday lunchtime extra discount on the Gu. It took a bit of conversation, but they also price matched a printout I brought in of a competitor's ad on the tires. One guy said their policy on price matching is that the competitor has to have a physical location within 25 miles. :?: From earlier comments here, it sounds like there's a lot of confusion on that policy, or that some staff just make it up as they go along, but in my case they were cool about it and I got a great deal.

They've also started a new tire & tube recycling program with a drop-off bin just inside the door. I've always felt guilty on the occasions when I've had to throw away an old tire or tube, so props to them on that.

They also have a history of supporting the MS Ride.

And my friend Tim who wrenches at their Fountain valley store is a great guy - he'll give you honest advice and he's meticulous in his work.

As long as you're not looking for the bling factor and you know your stuff, Performance is pretty good. The only problem I've had with them is that some of their employees are not really cycling enthusiasts and don't really know what they are talking about. But then again I've seen that in many bike shops.

I've been told twice that they would not match a competitor. I was told that the matching company had to have a brick and mortar building for price match. I ended up buying 2 wheelsets from ModernBike.com. (even though they have a buildings, just not near me).

Could have had them price match it online, and have it shipped to the store.

Eh.. What ever with the price matching. I've had Jensons tell me they couldn't price match me because it was lower than their cost.
If it's a lower price somewhere else, just get it there then.

Those performance tires are pretty ****ing nice for the money, I'm using the 29x2.2 Tsali on my Goblin. And my riding budding is using the 26x2.35 Pisgahs, cant beat getting a pair of good tires for $50.
