I'll encourage you when you get to Upper Holy Jim. Sweeper duties have called and I'll be cheering you all on at that point! Good luck to all VQ / CC riders!

4 Corners has never been an official aid station so don't EXPECT water to be there. Like J said, if water is there, it is for emergencies only.

Stupid question, but does anyone have mile markers for the 4 cutoffs? I have the locations, but I'm not sure on the mileage and I'm making up my cue sheet for the weekend. Appreciate it!

One of the best things about this event is that everyone is so encouraging throughout your entire day--why do you think it's such a race to get in (I've heard that the burgers at the top of West Horse Theif are another reason) ;)

Most other riders encourage each other, some not participating will ride to various points to cheer you on, and the volunteers are always vocal, too. It sounds like you have your timing down, you'll do great.

PS, pacing with people during this is difficult, not like a marathon. Some riders excell on the DH more than others, and some are stronger climbers, then there are the unlucky ones who get a flat or mechanical. Ride your ride and know that we're all behind you in spirit. :)

There is a "sticky" in the race forum about many of the questions/answers/info about this event:
    http://www.socaltrailriders.org/forum/racing-training/31753-vq-cc-thread-questions-answers-tips.html

Here is the thread about cue sheets: http://www.socaltrailriders.org/for...-sheet-vq-cutoff-time-observation-merged.html

For VQ, don't forget about the 4th cutoff at the bottom of WHT at 12:45which was not there that year of 2009.

Just curious: Is the Blackstar Gate open at the start of the VQ/CC, or do the riders start the race on the other side of the gate after hoisting their bikes up over the gate? I assume the race doesn't start before the gate.

The gate will be opened. Be there by 5:15am to check in. Event starts at 5:30am

I urge everyone to check the link I provided in my previous post. Most of the questions you are asking are all there.

From HJ lot to the top of WHT is about 4 1/2 miles. From the bottom of where Trabuco and WHT meet is just over 1 1/2 miles.

Quick question: so no drop bags for station 1 this year? Am I reading the email/race pack enclosure correctly?

    Just a reminder.......

Everyone will receive a wristband on the morning when you check in. Once you have received your wristband you will not be allowed to leave the staging area. Be prepared to ride when you come to check in.

We will begin wristbands at 5:00. This may slow the check in process a little bit.

Do not wait until 5:15 or 5:25 to check in and get your wristband.

The ride clock starts at 5:30.....if you are still checking in......you will be playing catch up.

IF YOU ALREADY HAVE YOUR PACKET DO NOT GO TO THE TRAiLER TO CHECk IN.
A section near the gate will be taped off....this is where you will check in.

If you have not lived up your packet yet, stop at the trailer and get your packet before checking in......then follow the directions above.

I don't remember ever having drop bags for aid station 1. It's always been only for aid station 2.
A friend may have done and can do it for you.

We may have done that a few years ago when Maple Sorings was closed due to the fires, and only autherized people were allowed past the gate.

Now it is open to the public, no vehicle traffic(the gate will be closed) so you can have someone bring you support on your own.
