I missed the CC registration by around 2 minutes. I just put my name on the waiting list. What are the chances of getting a spot? 50/50? 10/90? Does anyone know how many are typically on the waiting list?

Keep in mind this is not a closed course and the Santa Ana mountains are open to the public. Some people ride the event without support too. It's a big mountain.

Oh, I am a paid rider too.

We had a waiting list 3 years ago that had over 100 names for each event......we had so many dropouts that we went through the entire list.

The waiting list that will be run by jeff is not run by the Warrior Society, thus you don't have to follow it in order or even use it......you can sell your spot to anyone.

If you are high on the list, there is a very good chance you will be able to get into one of the events. Just keep training like you are registered.

I'm training as if I'm registered, if I don't get a spot I'm still riding. Doesn't mean I'll be starting at 5:30 with the main group, or trying to irritate anyone.

Last year I had about 75 people on the VQ wait list and 100+ on CC wait list. By rough estimate, I would say about 15% got a spot last year. If there is an effort made to reduce the number of DNS participants (almost 40 last year), it could potentially help a lot of people on the wait list.

I've been busy with work all day, and probably won't get to setting up the list until this evening. Will post a link once it's up and running.

Why is it limited to 175 participants? Selling out in 10 minutes or so is kind of ridiculous. Isn't there a way you can open it up to more riders? Obviously there's an interest and if the money is going to a good cause, then why not? Aren't there thousands of riders who do the various Leadville events? What's the difference?

That is the limit that the county permits us for each event.

We have tried to get that increased over the years but no go.

Personally, we are already out there with the support personell, so it doesn't matter if there were 150 or 800 riders.

The good news is: it's an open route in the Nat'l forest. You can go "ride" it anytime you want. I'm personaly going to ride it backwards on race day, just so I can say "no one behnd me" 175 times.

Unless you're one of just a few medical support and you're trying to get through all the bike traffic to get to an injured rider or something. Support on the hill is a bit different than support down below. Don't the paid participants deserve the support they paid for? Not to mention, and you should know this, there are rangers out there on the day of the event. If there are 800 riders out there, the permit will be more difficult to get next year, or may even have less allowed riders.

Why not do an unofficial ride the week before (before all the participants use our trails)? You can easily stash water at the support stops, time yourself AND you don't have to worry about a cut off (or try to beg to get through, or really abide by any of the rules). Hell, if you do that, I'll find some pigeon feathers and beads and make you a pretty necklace or something. Or, make up your own ride--go down SJT, isn't that more fun anyway? Or, sign up for the UQ. Or, try a 12Hr in Temecula, where you can actually WIN something for your effort.

Every year participants don't make the cut-off, but go through anyway--if you're going to do that, might as well just do your own ride.

My point is.....we are already out there......the number of riders doesn't really matter....if our permit said we could have 800 riders, it would not change much. I am fully aware of the number of riders out permit allows.

Plus, if we had that many riders there would more than likely be some more medical support personell.

It would matter cause what if we couldn't get anymore volunteers than what we have. The ones out there would be stretched thin. More water bottles to fill, more trash to pick up, more traffic and certainly more possibility for injury. That also means I would have to tie more feathers

Just to give you an idea...
I had 2 spots to sell last year for the CC. I think it was around January when we realized we couldn't go. I contacted the top 10 on the waiting list, told them they had 3 days to respond to me, and I'd sell them to the 2 highest people on the waiting list who responded. Nearly everyone got back to me, some changed their mind and others had already bought a spot. I think there were 4 who wanted to buy a spot and this was about 2 months before the event. I'd say, depending on where you are on the list, it's slightly better than 50/50 that you get in.
