i have a 20mm thru axle that wont come out of a hope pro 2. it rolls just fine but i have tried tapping it out and it just doesnt budge. :?: and yes, i loosened it from the fork:lol:
Lol NO! I was just impatient! after I tore mine up, first thing I noticed was that the bearing housing was rusted and was stuck to the maxle... I had to hammer the bearing off... just be patient and keep soaking it with WD40 or something similar... GOOD LUCK! and stay away from any SAW
Aerokroil is the best 'come un-stuck' penetrating lube ive ever tried. Try some heat. Heat Beat Repeat.
Back it up. In other words, lay the fork on it's side, and place 4x4's beneath it so the axle is perfectly vertical and flat. When you whack the axle with a leather/rubber mallet, all the energy is imparted onto the bolt and not used up with the fork. The better you back it up, the more energy is applied to the job of loosening the axle.
Try pouring Coca-Cola on it. Seriously! It can dissolve rust and oxidation. If you've every soaked an oxidized penny in Coke you'll see. We use to soak Jet Ski engines that were rusted up solid and it would usually free them up so we could disassemble them for repair. My Cousin who is a plumber says they replace the drain pipes at McDonalds every two years because the Coke erodes the pipes. That's why I don't drink Coke!
I think Coke works because of the Carbonic Acid in it. A stronger acid that still isn't nasty (ala Muriatic, which I would never suggest) is in vinegar, and vinegar doesn't have all of the sugary yuk in it. Smells a little funky, but that goes away with a little time. I'd try "PB Blaster" for soaking it. If you can get it warm first w/o harming things I'd do that too. X eleventeen on backing it up. HTH & GL!!
