Its a 2013 36 RC2 Pushed. I really did not care for the overall feel of the air spring curve on the Pike. First 1" of travel was super plush, best I have felt but for me the rest was bland. High speed stutter bumps it was terrible for me.

Over. It starts to pack up when thing got rowdy at speed transferring everything back to my hands leaving me with blurred vision and I spent 3-4 rides trying to dial that out. The 36 RC2 might not have as good small bump but to me the most fun part of riding is at speed and the RC2 feels better to me.

I paid a tad over $3300 out the door at The Path.

The shock mount only looks weak from the side...it is a very wide piece of solid metal as you can see in the picture. I don't think it will have any strength problems...after all it IS a Kona. I had a group of guys at Aliso looking at it and they said they had the same thoughts from the pictures. But seeing it in person, they said it looked very solid and they wouldn't worry about it.

That is a nice looking bike. I threw a leg over its big brother at the Path and it felt nice, I just hated the green & wish it also came in this orange!

Kona knows how to build beefy bikes. I have no doubt it is over-engineered to withstand the level of abuse intended for the bike (i.e. BC riding). and yes, the second photo makes the forward shock mount look a whole lot beefier. Cool rig.

If you look at my Knolly Endorphin (post 611 http://www.socaltrailriders.org/for...ntain-Rigs!!&p=1002244&viewfull=1#post1002244), there is a whimpy looking part also. There is a link between the upper seatstay pivot and the 4x4 pivot on the seattube that looks really flimsy. However, the Endorphin has the stiffest rear triangle I've ever ridden. The little link doesn't have to bear any sideloads. Both "K" companies know how to build a bike for their region.

    Enjoy Responsibly!

That part does look flimsy. But like you said Knolly and Kona build bikes that can handle way more abuse than the average So Cal trail can dish out. I like the look of the new Knollys, the Chilcotin was on my short list.

I wanted the light gray color their test bikes had and I was disappointed in the green and orange colors they chose. The orange grew on me though and when I saw it in person I loved it, it looks way better than the pictures. That green though...no thanks.

Thanks! I'm quite fond of it myself.

I'm loving the Pike. Plush, bottomless feel. I'm thinking about trying some volume spacers to play with the rate, but right out of the box it feels smooth at speed in the rocky stuff, and controlled in deep tech.

What is your weight with gear on and what pressure are you running? I'm having trouble getting mine where I want it. It doesn't feel bad, but if i run lower pressure if feels plush on small stuff but it feels like I am too low in travel and it's ramping up too soon. If I run a higher pressure the small bump goes away and it feels awesome in the rough stuff. Maybe my definition of small bump is off. Maybe I am expecting something different because the Marzocchi on my old bike. I never serviced it so it probably feels like crap but I was just used to it. My buddy said the Pike felt awesome, way better than his Float

Smooth at speed in the rocky? That is where the Pike left me a bit disappointed.

SoCalMX, which frame did you put the Pike on? I know you have an ASR7, but know you've been on a few different frames since getting it (to supplement/compliment the ASR7). Having owned an ASR7 myself, I know that its idea of speed is far faster than many others' idea of speed, serious big mountain DH blasting speed. You'd be scared out of your breeches if you didn't have a fork that offered good control through the rocks at *speed*. I'm not trying to defend the Pike; just trying to clear up things so I can better understand the perspectives from which these comments are coming from.

And I've never been on a Fox shock that did well for me on the small stuff and big stuff with same settings. Different "strokes" for different folks.

This Banshee Rune 650b V2 is what the Pike was on. (Posted on previous page BUT pic whore!) I still have the ASR-7 with a 180 Float! :)

Man, every time I see you post that pic of the Rune, I want one bad. Either that or a Spitfire. Can't decide.

If you ride a large I will give you a killer deal on my frame. I will be buying the 2014 for stealth dropper!
