I know it looks uphill on the map but Chair 1 lets you off above chair 2. There is a down slope from chair 1 to chair 2. You will not have to climb at the start.

    4x course update

Here's an update on the 4x course from local James Schwanke:

Small but pretty fun. Some weird corners that don't work that well too. Hardtail or really stiff rear suspension if you've got it. There will be lots of pedalling out of the corners".

gotta agree with him there. the entrance into a lot of the corners felt unnatural to me, and I found myself laying in deep and cutting. nothing some practice couldn't fix, but still.

berms didn't feel particularly railable either. all the rhythm sections felt fine though.

with regards to the DH course:
    1. I have no clue where the course will peel off of velocity, but there is NO good way of doing it right now from what I can see.

the only way to where the course is continued (fat armored berm after the pink wall and techno drop), can only be accessed via the fire road. if that's where we turn off from velocity, it's going to be MISERABLE. it's about 100 yards, uphill, with no momentum. it will suck. probably more than the wall, considering the added elevation and 2 run format.

pro/experts will have no trouble. if they can clean the techno drop, they will have TONS of momentum into said armored berm. no problems. the sport/beg will get shafted unless they cut an alternate course somewhere though.

    2. after the courses meet, it should be golden. slam the armored berm, and hit a straight section, with a bit of a dive in it. lots of tables, doubles, etc that should be fun if they get packed down. then you lay into a set of berms at warp speed. they're tight, and you will be pulling LOTS of G's if you're going fast (I rode 2 of them, but didn't know we weren't allowed on them 8-[). then you do some other stuff, and hit another straight sections of tables/rollers/doubles. from there, it hits the 4X track to the finish.

    3. I'm not sure where the start line will be, or where the upper part of the course will go (at least anything above McCoy station). all I know is that it looked loose, and you will probably be able to haul some serious butt into that big table jump at the top of velocity. I don't think the pro/ex's will hit that though, and will peel off and hit the drops leading into techno rock.

overall, I'm okay with the 1st half of the course. it's my style, I know how to rail it, and it should be fun. the second half, I really don't know. some practice should remedy all problems from where the courses join down, but I'm still VERY worried about that transition from velocity to the new trail. it's awkward, slow, and kills all flow and momentum. I suppose I'll need to check out where the tape goes before drawing my final conclusions, but they better get working on a connector, or it might be kinda annoying.

    Hey guys,
I was wondering if anyone that is going up to Mammoth has any extra room and some floor space? I will pay my share! If you are going through Victorville at the start of 395 I can meet you at Bear Valley rd and 395! I'm bringing a sleeping bag, gear bag, Dh bike and helmet. if anyone wants a stowaway please let me know.

I found the new peel-off on velocity that heads into the 4x cross. It's after the last long ramp. when you come the the bottom you hit the left hand berm that's all jacked up. Here are some shots looking up at the berm and some looking coming out of it. Then when you do the up-and-over you veer left, heading into the trees. The blue line is for the bobcat to cut the course.

The last long ramp being the Skinier one? Leading into the Redish berm?

Also that looks like a long $hity traverse to get to the 4X track in pic 5

if that's true, thank you. that's much much better

yeah, bomb across the mid road, hang a right across a run, armored left, long skinny ladder, crappy left that needs some armor, then straight to the 4X.

and at least it's downhill and you can carry some speed into it. the other way would suck if it met up with the pro/ex course.
