I am just getting over a bit my self but nowhere near that WOW!!! Just an FYI, Poison Oak can be caught from the plant even if it looks dormant/dead so if you are very allergic to it (like the guy in the pick) you need to watch out all year. This last bit I got because I pet a dog that was running through the bushes and one of the few times I did not wash off right after a ride.
I get weeping sores from it about 3 times a year. I don't even remember seeing the plant on the trail.
Rut - Thanks for starting this great thread. Those pics are great. After rides where there could be oak I use Palmolive (yes the dish soap) in the shower. Not only do you get the oak off, but you get great soft and gentle legs. hehehe
Good idea! Dish soap is designed to cut through grease and oils - exactly the carrier of the stuff that makes PO nasty. And it doesn't dry your skin, either.
I was just making sure it wasn't my arm from a few years back. I spent 9 days off work and I was unable to put a shirt on without popping blisters. ..those were the days!
looks like something from a horror film! I wear light weight long sleeve jersey and carry individual portion of Technu lotion in my camel back.
Where do you go to buy tecnu lotion? At your local drugstore like Rite-Aid? After a couple of brush ins w/ PO, I'm scare to death of them.
I hope said person finds a way to sleep without popping that big one and making a mess in the sheets.
Man, that's just one of those pictures I could have gone through life without ever seeing. Who wants pork rinds?
You can shower with detergent after a ride ,it will cut the oil. Dish type powered laundry is a little ruff. Once you have it it gets easier each time to get it . Year around it is potent.
I will no longer be able to talk about how bad I got it last time. Well, okay, I will, but it's nothing like those arms. I am very susceptible. I rode El Prieto a few weeks ago and did a wipe down with some Cortaid Poison Ivy toxin removal cloths at the car. I was heckled by Chewy, Brewmaster and Onlyontwo for taking a bath at the trailhead. After all that I still got a couple little spots of Poison Oak. I don't think I touched it, but like Lee said, it can be on anything else after being carried there by something. Here's my good leg after getting some a couple of years ago. I know, nothing too bad, but I wasn't very happy about it. Now I try to stay as far away from it as possible. That's actually why I hadn't ridden El Prieto for so long. I was afraid of the P.O. ~R
I always keep Dawn dish soap in the shower... if I go on a heavy PO ride, when I first get in the shower, I'll run the water cold, so my pores don't open, and wash down with Dawn... then turn on the heat and have a normal shower.
FYI... I Have found that Zanfel, CVS Pharmacy's version "POISON IVY Anit-Itch Scrub, for Poion Ivy, Oak & Sumanc", and Rite Aid's version "Quick Relief" washes are very effective. All three wash away the Urushiol Oil that is the culpret in this whole PO thing.
That person had a very bad reaction. Must be really allergic to the stuff. I have never reacted that bad.
Last time was this single track once you come down to near to the bottom. Few minutes from the lake/entrance. We were pedaling hard through that section because it is relatively flat with lots of overgrown stuff. One of them must have brushed my arm.
