    Haha...no, that wasn't me. I'm an angel. ;-)

My best time's at the top of this page. I'm actually kind of curious what I'd get on my new bike. My bike that I got my best time on was my FrankenTrance. It's got a 150mm fork on the front, up from the specced 120. My new bike's an Anthem, and I think I can get under 5 minutes on it. But like I said above, I'm not motivated by getting PRs all the time. I'd rather just have a good time riding with my buddies, or just zone out and enjoy the experience.

I just love the irony of someone who admits to actually crashing into another rider while he is riding downhill obviously too fast to avoid other trail users and failing to yield to the uphill rider (who has the right of way) now has the gall to call another user group "A-holes" for riding too fast for the safety of other trail users.

That may be the funniest thing I've seen on here in a long time.

If its ok for me to little bit involve with the conversation here, imho...yes, the first dh section at Coyote Run kind of tricky and dangerous. If you go downhilling too fast more likely you can't avoid yourself to have an accident from incoming riders who came from Coyote Run to go uphill. In this case I noticed myself there are a lot of riders speeding to get momentum to climb that hill without thinking of incoming riders. If I'm not wrong I think he was saying the accident was happening at the Blind Turn not at the hill section. Since both riders "ezworks" and other riders going to the same spot of blind turn, most likely the accident will happen because nobody can see if there are riders approaching. As I read his story above he didn't mentioned that he was going fast either...going fast on his old Stumpy, nooo..I don't think he'll do that (no offense ezworks) #-o. But he was trying to be polite by saying sorry and instead he got rude feedback from those riders who more concerned of his "time". Yes, it's not appropriate judging all STRAVA's user above as an ahole just because some of riders had showing bad attitude in order to reach their best time for specific trail. I think he was just over react on expressing what he saw at Cholla and the accident, again this is according to his experienced and his story above. All in all, let's just ride, have some fun and be friends! And I'm more than agree with him to ride and be safe out there and respect to each other of the trail users!

Let see if I can break my Cholla 6:13 time tomorrow, :).

Hey all. It's been a while since I posted up and I've been getting out more and more so I thought I'd check in and see what's happening. Looks like the post went off track with the Strava thing a little. :( It seems like a contentious topic everywhere but I just started using it and I really like it. I do agree to an extent that it pushes us harder and sometimes this comes at a price either with safety or trail etiquette. The strava riders aren't all like that and I can say that most aholes on the trail are just aholes and have started using Strava to further their a-holiness. And some have kicked aside all etiquette once they started using it. My resolution is that I've been keeping my push rides to weekdays when the trails are less busy. I also work on bettering my climbs more and then coast down Rockit, etc. No one should expect to come and ride the weekends to better their times with all the traffic. ESPECIALLY Aliso!

Also, for those who don't have one, get a bell for cryin out loud! :) If you're running titanium anodized spoke nipples, the Incredible is $6, weighs about 2oz and is probably the smartest add on to a bike. Again, ESPECIALLY at Aliso. I'm amazed at how few people have them but the hikers go out of their way to say how much they appreciate a little notification. And for those who say "If I ring my bell they scatter or move in the wrong when I'm doing 30MPH on the main trail," well then, you're part of the problem. It's all about etiquette and sharing the trail and a little ring to let them know you're coming goes a long way! :) It's saved me and the number of people coming up Rock-it a couple of hundred times and vice versa.

With all that said, I hope we can get back to brass tax and see some sweet times! I personally feel I'm finally getting back on track after working on my "before" picture over the holidays. Now that I am using Strava I've begun to compete with a friend and it's a lot fun ribbing each other via texts after a great ride. I got my first sub 5 min with a 4:58 today (with traffic going up) and yes I used the bell and it worked!

There were a-holes before Strava. There was one at Cheeseboro who always rode like the downhiller has right-of-way and would yell at anyone. Friends would talk and say, "Yes I saw him today". No change could have made him worse. He disappeared instead of being reformed. I can only guess what happened to him.

The Strava stats show Lopes has ridden Cholla twice - not a training ground unless he doesn't post.
The person with the most climbs is Paul Horvath - 207 times up Cholla. Best time 4:40, Average 6:21.

Im glad that I have not encountered a-holes yet, maybe I did, but never notice it.

First time using strava on Aliso, my cholla climb sign to sign was in 726th place out of 1846 riders on strava.
Im sure thousands more in front of me that are not on strava. My time was 5:35, on Saturday morning.
Lots of riders / hikers at the bottom and top, but when I climbed, it was just my group on cholla.

Personally I use Strava to measure my improvement over time and not a benchmark for social glorification. I think the Strava model, while helpful, is flawed. I think to get a "truly accurate" KOM each rider should start out a 0 mph. I have seen countless rides that start the segment if "the light is green" or get as much speed as they can prior to the segment. Also (and this is more for road segments) Stava doesn't take into consideration drafting up a segment or groups of riders.

Nonetheless it is what it is and as long as you're not a douche then game on... that being said:

My best time for Cholla (sign to sign): 4:04

p.s. - want a nicer and less known challenge do the big cholla climb instead! (located behind Cholla just keep riding up instead of turning off at the bench)

avg grade Cholla sign to sign - 13.6%
avg grade Big Cholla - 17.5%

    guaranteed to be some.
As some have said, if you are on a ride and don't notice any a-holes, maybe you are it ;)
Or so I've been accused ;)

Ugh, I can't seem to get up the damn thing lately under 5:30. Seems like lately I go up just to get there with no purpose. Just thought I'd check back here since it's been a while. Can't believe it's been a year!

Got my Bronson C, posted my best time of 5:31. For me, that's pretty good. I think if I really try hard, I can get it under 5min within the next 3-4 weeks......I think.....I hope.....I pray.

I've never ridden it, but Big Cholla looks like it's the crazy steep fire road that just goes straight up the hill right at the end of the pavement by the park. The other Cholla segments are the real Cholla trail (singletrack that twists up the hill). It looks like there are 3 active segments for cholla after all of the hazardous flagging, and they are almost identical (Cholla Climb (6.2013), Cholla Climb, and Cholla (SAFE)).

I pushed myself really hard one time when it wasn't very crowded and cracked the top 100 at 3:42 on Cholla (SAFE). Then it took about 15 minutes to stop feeling like I was going to puke! If you push it, I'm sure you can beat that (if you haven't already) since you've kicked my a$$ every time we've raced together.
