Not worried about my heart stopping, more worried about it exploding. I will leave these games to the youngsters.

Ah man, they just forgot to open my entrance! Dammit! I come in by Soka! I must have sat there for 5 minutes pondering going over the chains. I was pumped and ready. I'm going tomorrow AM for sure. Anyone want to hammer it with me at 8am?

My wife said it was the branch a little down from where you are talking about. It looks like a Coyote with a lung in it's mouth:lol:

I have a clear coat (black) Ibis and my wife rides a blue Julianna. I'm at the park at least 3 times a week in a white van, liscense plate wndjnky (what else:?:). Next time say, "Hi" or just shout out your best time up Cholla or Mathias. It's not a club... it's a gang.:bang:

Around 5pm the CalEpic family and I rode up Cholla. Margo went straight up at a good pace without stopping (forgot to time ourselves). I fell and landed on my back side on a steep technical portion of the trail. Over-powered, front tire lifted and went over backwards; couldn't uncleat. Saw two guys roll by as I was pulling myself up from the ground. Whoever it was, thanks for checking. :)

Darkness fell quickly and Margo and I found ourselves descending Mathis in the dark. We flew out of there. Wished I would have timed that!!

I set my lap timer on a ride a few weeks back and here are my times: up Mathis 13:22, down Rock-it 4:46 up Cholla 5:51 down Lynx 1:59. I didn't make it up Cholla in under 5 minutes but when you figure in the 210lb rider handicap it should be under 5.:-k

Riding the road has definitely helped!

Did a little patrolling at Aliso between 4 and 6pm tonight. Quite a few peeps out on the trails. Did Cholla in under 5 and was surprised that I could have done it faster as I still had plenty at the top. I was on my XC Blur (nice & light) and not the SS... sometimes I just love gearing!

BTW: watch out for the major rut on the southern approach to the top of Dripping Cave. I'm sure the rangers will have this worked on in the next few days. Very hard to find a line up to the top.

patkel! Nice splits. Those are my goals now. I'm only 160, no excuse. Where do you start and stop Rock-it? My best is up Mathias 14:38, down Lynx 2:10, up Cholla 6:28, down Rock-it 6 :15. We should ride, but I guess I would still be 5-6 minutes behind you the whole time.

That's a great tip! My wife took the worse fall ever off a short, steep, vertical climb with exposure. I believe she had her wieght too far back, wheelied and tumbled down a hill with the handle bars hitting her ribs. Now she is afraid of that spot and any short and steep vertical climbs. Does the action of keeping your wrists down on a vertical climb keep your front wheel weighted?

Yep! Turn down your wrists will add some downforce to the front. Also, she should loosen her grip. When you grip too tight you tend to pull the bars up as you crank.

Well, if anyone is at El Moro you can give Poles a shot. That's a bear of a climb. I looked it up and I got 5:36 there last year. Don't know if I'll ever want to do that again for time.

As far as climbing steep ups, how's that saying go "Boobs to the tube". Drop you your elbows and lower your center of mass. Skoot up on the saddle even riding on the nose of your saddle if it's really steep. But stay low if you're doing seated climbs. I actually will pull slightly back on the bars, kind of like a momentary rocking motion and time it with my downward pedal stroke to really drive the rear wheel into the ground. It's all about finding that balance point where you can keep from wheeling but have enough weight on the rear wheel to keep the traction.

Coolbreeze it's the kicker at the last 1/3 of the Poles climb that usually gets people.

Okay, hijackers, let's keep focus here! Tried Cholla today and was disappointed for sure at 5:34. Felt pretty good in the beginning but struggled a bit after the chute. I think I just went at it too hard early on. Oh well, another goal to shoot for!

I forgot there was a sign for Cholla  at the bottom so let's just use that. Start your clock as soon as you cross it and stop it at the post up top. Doesn't have to be a standing start.

    Happy breathing!
