Very nice stuff. I met Mark a few years ago (more than a few) at a ride in El Moro, when he had the contract for GT. All the bikes posted here look really nice, and it's good to know you can breath new life into an older or somewhat mucked up frame with nice powdercoating! around 99 I had my first mtn bike, a Specialized Ground Control (color mango), stripped, and Olympic did it in yellow. came out really good. Do they still have the contract with Turner?
Fella on the phone at Specialized HQ told me any mods to my frame's finish would void the warranty ie paint, powdercoat, etc. However, after looking at the Olympic website, I am considering the black chrome finish for my work stand! I want to tac on a drink holder that will accommodate a 24.oz AB bottle first. :beer:
Thats the policy with almost all manufacturers, especially anyone who works with carbon. If you alter the paint, goodbye warranty. That bike above is an S&M .38 Special, I don't expect to break it and if I somehow manage that I am sure they will be cool about it as Olympic did their frames for a while as well.
Been meaning to put this up. Here's my Tracer that was done by Olympic a little over a month ago. They did a great job and took care masking the bearing areas, bottom bracket, and headtube.
Any idea if they could clear PC a polished titanium frame? Would the curing process cause discoloration?
Olympic Powder Coating and why I'm sick of them. So, I'm basically stating a rant about how lame OPC is. I took a frame there last monday to get painted. Just a simple off white, no big deal. It used to be $85 now it's $95. Ok, fine, but can I have it in a week? Sure, well "a week +" is what he wrote on the card he handed me. A week +? Wtf is that? So anywhere from a week until the end of time? Sure it's probably my fault for taking it to them instead of another local shop but San Clemente seemed too far away. Well 10 days later they are still "working on it" and have no idea when it will be done. When I call to ask they keep saying things like "Well we just didn't get to it today, we'll let you know as soon as it's done" It's just so open ended. Now if I get it and there is even the slightest error I'm going to flip out. Why wouldn't they just say "It will be two weeks" then at a week and a half it seems great that they got it faster than what they said. I started calling around. Other shops say three days. I wish I could just go pick up my frame and take it to another place. Has anyone else had a problem with them? Probably. Bummer.
I have personally never had a problem with Olympic... I can think of half a dozen STR members who have moved on (various reasons)! I don't see myself using them again for one reason: I don't feel like they appreciate my business (here's your frame.. don't let the door hit you on the way out). In their defense, they are pretty busy- mistakes do happen!
They just did some gates for me. Quality work. I'd rather wait for quality than see crap rushed out the door.
Hahaha... last time I sent a bike to CycleArt, the paint job was quoted at three weeks & $900. Took two and a half months, and cost $1500, and they put the wrong decals on it. ...under clearcoat. This sounds like a dream come true by comparison!

Silly question, but is there a reason you can't go get your frame and take it somewhere else? Plus, I'm betting once you told them you were coming to get your frame it would magically be in the paint booth getting done.
