Good idea. Ride the hardtail to make good time to the aid station, then switch out to the squishy at maple springs to enjoy rest of the ride. :bang:

Now we just need the forest to open back up so we can train on the trails we will be riding for the VQ/CC.

Damn damn damn damn my District's firewall that did not allow me to go to Active's site here in my classroom.

Let me be the FIRST to say: If you need to drop out of either event (I'd prefer CC, but will tackle the VQ if'n that's my only option), please PM me. I will gladly take your spot and pay your entrance fee.

Does anyone know the mileage/climbing stats for the checkpoints? I'm not at all familiar with these trails.

For those that didn't get in, once the forest is open, you can ride the route yourself totally self supported and keep track of your own time. You don't need an official event to have a great ride in the Santa Anas.

afterward I'll be thinking Salvation!

sorry to hear about that :( my district has new firewalls this year, but got lucky as long as I was logged in as a teacher and not student! If I hear anything I'll let you know. But...you're more than welcome to train (I mean pass) with any of us! :-k

For those of your grasshoppers that didn't get in...

We will be holding a prayer night vigil complete with candles outside of Switchback Cyclery tonight at 11 pm. Please practice your best Cum By Yah songs. Please note that plans for the human sacrifice have been canceled... For all you other fortunate riders ... go find a sharp stick to sit on for the next 6-8 hours. this will help to prepare for what's coming.8-[

Don't know where I'll be working on the course yet but will offer to cheer you on for a dollar (I'm presently unemployed and need to make $$$).... Also taking special prayer requests for a blue light special of .50 cents each...

Congrats to those that made it... the adventure begins! To those that didn't, monitor this board as there will be drop outs and you can probably buy in that way. I myself bought 75 spaces and am willing to part with them for only a 25% mark-up (again, just kidding ;))...

Will see you on the course next year. Sold out in under 12 hours... just amazing!

PS: Pray for cool weather!!!!!! [-o-]

This info would also be extremely helpful to me. Having the mileage/climbing stats for the time cutoffs would greatly improve my ability to plan training rides. Thanks.

    Here's a start:
    Geoladders route

I think the first cutoff for the CC is at the bottom of the first downhill at 18.8 miles.
and the second one at 26 miles at the top of the next climb up maple springs.

    Beth,

Like Pat said, it's really not that bad. Ann and I never did rides more than 16 miles when we signed up for CC. It took a lot of long training rides on the weekends and on the day of the race, I bet you'll be faster than ever. I know we were. The other riders will motivate you to go faster. Good Luck, you'll do fine.

An infinite amount, and yet nothing...it sold out this morning just after 10. Sorry. And I doubt there'll be too much of a black market on VQ/CC entries (edit-i'm sure there will be some drop-outs, as others said below).

True, maybe this year is full of redeemers who dropped out last year due to fire/forest closure. Less likely they'll drop two years in a row.

Congrats to all who are in! I will start to schedule training rides soon. I suggest you get out and ride on your own because I will ride at pace, at least CC pace for the first few and then at VQ pace. Not to break any speed records but to get there just before Cutoffs. I'm not going to as many training rides as I did last year, that killed my knees #-o, but the quality of rides will be there.

For those who didn't get in, I will start a waiting list thread and members interested can add their names to update it. This thread will be a "sticky" in the Racing forum so you can check it. You should do some training rides as if you are in! Believe me, there will be plenty who drop out between now and March for various reasons. It will be up to the entries to contact those waiting to sell their spot. Then contact the WS so your info gets entered into the database.

Here is the link to the "waiting list" thread:

    Cutoffs.
The first cut off time is 9.30 a.m. at the bottom of the Silverado Trail and Maple Springs. The second cutoff time is 11:30 a.m. at the intersection of Maples Springs Road and the Main Divide. The third cutoff time is 12:00 p.m. at the bottom of Holy Jim Trail. This is the only cutoff that matters. B/c if you're close at all to the first two you sure not to make the 3rd.

Man I cant believe I didn't get in. I missed the sign up time ( thought it was the 12th for some dumb reason), and it sold out so fast. Hope I get a drop out spot. This is a ride I need to do.
