I guess I can start this RR and there will be others to finish it. I opted to do one of my favorite things of all times...get on a bike at the beach with friends. Well....for those that we missed, I'm sorry you couldn't find us...it was a really fun time. I think the entire ride was powered by beer though.... there were moments of clarity, followed by some trick riding, some swimming (and being thrown out of the swim area)....a lot of bell ringing....and some sweet cruiser maneuvers. It was a day of a few good folks, with three of us left standing (and fried) by the end of the day. I'm personally sunburned in places I thought were covered....tisk tisk. We rode the 20 mile loop and had a great time.

Mondo is late....and while cornering at high speed his cooler tips over and spills ice all over his van....and apparently his air stem found a new cap.

First stop....Beach Ball and Shoot-the- Roots.

Out of Beach Ball we go down the boardwalk to find the superstar bike had blown a tire....so it seemed completely natural to throw Mondo up on the bars for a lift.

The bike shop let him do his thing....especially after seeing the bike .....and the lady couldn't get off her pelvic machine to help him out anyway. Mondo actually had to pay for his tube...which was the hardest part of the ride I think.

Ok here's a shot of me on the stupid machine... after Beach Ball and the fun little beer shot we did...apparently I wasn't watching Kid A and his video function... the lady in the background was priceless.

Cabo Cantina was the next stop...it was hot and we needed hydration.

All in all it was a great day...the crowds were actually not too bad and the company was a blast....

I didn't bring my camera and that's probably a good thing. At least on this board. ;)

I am waiting for the video. Your facial expressions on grandma's little toy were priceless!

Great ride, great friends, great time. One thing we will do differently next time.

    SUN BLOCK!!!

I like how guero's 'stache perfectly matches his handlebars.

If I'd known it was a themed ride, I'd have worn a Speedo and highlighted my Presta valve.

Looks like a blast. Count me in for the next one.

hey - like i said super good time. First thanks again to Mondo and Pat for extending invite to others. Great way to beat the heat.

Didn't get to experience all the nuttiness as had to bail early with prior plans but this guy saw enuff to mos def hit it again.

I think there were as many Bkmkts out there as cruisers. but appears while i may be able to dress that part i am a poser at heart. (story to follow)

Some of the fun included, arrival at the tecate forest (i.e parking lot) ;) and Mondo spewing something about his man toys????

Knew i was in for trouble after first bar stop kelly steps up and order beer barrels for all. (did i mention that after cinammon, root beer is my second most hated flava).

Anyway, after returned to sunlight we encounter our first mishap with Mondo getting a flat. After a bit of walking he and Pat decide what are freinds for and gives Mondo a lift.

Not gonna say these guys are not comfortable with their manhood, but you could hear Mondo and Pat explaning to EVERYONE they pass, "No, we are not Ghey, it just that I have a flat" (rumor has it Mondo didnt want to get his shiny bike dirty so planned on having Pat "ride him" all day long)

Not sure if it was the heat, was it the beer, or was it merely the fact i am a total 'tard, but I start racing up to get a few pics of these guys and the pics. get a few as I'm coming up and decide to race ahead and stp to get a pic of them coming.

Whoa Nelly!!!! For those unaware it does in fact appear that locking up the front break (think that front brake is heading back to shop as way too grabby and back was way fading) in a skid turn on a sandy pavement does in fact mean bad things to come.

So in what I imagine is the very first incident of STR bike path carnage, your's truly goes down hard. Also may be the first crash sequence taken by rider instead of bubbs (ride seq attached)

However as you may see laying on my back I still got the shot of the boys as i lay in pain...I f'n rock :-k (also included a pic of sun which i only imagine was shot "mid-biff" :( )

next comes in search of bike shop for Mondo to get a new tube. Without mentioning the name of the "interesting" establishment, I will share this upon Mondo leaving the rental shop "Dude, that kid looked like the folks from the hills have eyes"8-[ .. nuff said.

Well one more interesting tidbit on the shop. It appears our very own innocent SD has a bit more "riding" experience than we may have all imagined. someone said something about som vis shot but not sure...may only be a rumor :)

Iregardless I am certain Kelly will be changing here username to crazy horse!

So on to one more bar for me before I have to jet to get back to the Mrs. for date "night" but sign me up for this nastiness again and thanks to all who joined in.

gratuitous pic of dessert with the wife:?: -merely evidence that i'm not a hack and did indeed have early date night plans ;)

I always check the calendar events and even the trailhead forum cause some rides don't show up on the calendar and make a note of it in my weekly planner. Sorry we missed you at SART as well on Sat.

That's one great way to escape the heat, cruise your bikes and incorporate people watching. Looks like fun, kids! I was sort of kept in the loop of the ride's progress until someone had too much to drink and broke off all communication. ;)

Guero looks kinda hot on K's pink beach cruiser...LOL!!! ;)

Yeah I admit Im not the best at looking at the calender I should do it more! SART was on my list but I was in AZ sweltering in 118 degree weather. Damn it was miserable. Summer time sucks for me and work it takes alot of my weekends away when everyone is riding cool stuff :( I am hoping to have the next few Saturdays free, I hope.....

ahhhhyes, good times yesterday everyone!!! my morning started off with kelly calling me around 9:30am saying YOU ARE GOING, RIGHT!?!?! i had no choice, so i got my ass outta bed and drove down and met her off of brookhurst, just up from PCH. she was rad and let me borrow her pink cruiser. as we rode in the lot to find pat, i got a few 'nice bike' comments. we saw adam pulling in the lot as we crossed pch, and we then cruised the lot and found pat and mike (1fgrider). mondo was next to show and had frosty tah-cah-tays for us upon arrival. after lathering up with more sunscreen we were on our way.

the bike paths were packed. dodging people was the normal, i was lucky and was behind pat and he was chargin it around, through, and under people as we cruised the path, this opened up 'lanes' or 'holes', kinda like a blocker does for a running back, i was able to sneak through just in time before they holes closed up. like the others said, first stop was 'the beachball'. kelly antied up and got us all shoot the roots, that was a cool little joint for sure. not eating any breakfast, and starting with the tecate, and then the shoot the root had me feeling a lil tipsy couple with the warm sun. we then continued south and stopped at the cabo cantina (i think), just south of the newport pier. two more beers (negro modelo) were drank, quesadillas and nachos were devoured, it was time to mount up and head further south, next stop, the wedge. the beach was pretty crowded as we pushed our bikes through the sand. once we reached the water line kelly pretty much ran straight into the water and frolicked about, pat was next. it was really cute to see them splash each other out there. that was all short lived as the lifeguard came out and told them to get out of the water since they didn't have fins on. i never saw a set bigger than 3 feet come through the entire time we were there. disgruntled and wet, they walked back to their bikes and we were on our way. pat thought it would be a good idea to wash his feet off in the public drinking fountain at the end of the sidewalk...i held the button while he put one foot up there to wash it off, after a few seconds, he said 'f**k it' and we were on our way, leaving his other foot corndogged (covered in sand). we strolled back, and this time the paths were even more crowded (see all the pix) and this is when i snapped so many rad pix.

i decided to dip out around 2:30ish, thanks for the lift to my car mike. mondo and pat, thanks for the idea, i'll be on the next one again for sure. kelly thanks for letting me borrow the cruiser (and letting me take the tassles off). adam, thanks for crashing right in front of me, i was bummed i didnt have the camera out to capture that!

almost forgot to mention that 2wheelee and his g/f were there too. they decided to keep on heading south and skipping the bar, the beachball with us. lee, i'll send you those links to those bikes i was talking about.

see y'all on the next one!

Ha! Good times. I think the combination of alcohol and sun got to me. I had a pounding headache until just an hour ago. Nice riding and hanging out with all of you. I'll post my pics when I get home.

Did I mention I have pictures of Kelly soaking wet??
