A friend of mine I served in the NAVY with during the mid 80's sent me these. He was from Ohio and moved back after he got out.
Anyone know where I can find some Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier Marzen (i.e smoked/bacon beer) ? Have tried the usual suspects (Whole Foods etc..) South Orange County but will travel. Thanks!
I've actually seen it at Bevmos before...also try Hi-Time in Newport, even Total Wine (one off El Toro as well as Tustin Markeplace) [h=1]Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier Ur-Bock[/h]in stock HB Bevmo...is is the Rauch you're going for in either Bock or Marzen Also a good bottle shop at the corner of Los Alisos and Trabuco...don't recall name..but good choices...it's out there.
Funny you mention that place Kevin, it's around the corner from my parent's place and they do have surprisingly good selection. Other than his suggestions, I know Vendome in Fullerton used to keep it around regularly. I have heard of good bottle shops opening up down mv/rsm way too, maybe Gene or others have some insight down there for this one?
Nice 50/50 collection. I just grabbed the Elijah Craig bottle. In previous years, that was the only one I thought was worth 30 bones.
LOL, yeah me. Was my present to myself. And I couldnt think of a nicer person that would deserve such a wonderful gift. Still havent had the makers, elijah, or evan 12 yr old. those are for next week. This is the first time so I thought I would try all of them and know for next yr. Wanted the pappys but they ran out.
Was just up in Truckee for Christmas and stopped by FiftyFifty. Had the Evan Williams on tap it was great! Also tried the Donner Party Porter and the CAPA. Wanted to get a couple of bottles of the Eclipse, but couldn't justify paying $25-40/bottle.
I was feeling in a dark-beer mood last night so I got Stone's Smoked Porter on draft on Slater, and thought it was really good. Any suggestions for a similar beer in this style? I'm not a huge fan of the big, boozy Imperial Stouts like the w00tstout, Stone IRS, Parabola or Abyss, I'm looking for something with that roasty flavor but more drinkable/balanced. Actually though if anyone knows a place that still has the Espresso IRS I'll make an exception for that, it's a great beer!
Had some Daisy Cutter last night...really tasty..good hop bite..smooth...a bit grassy as well as citrus
SMH... all kinds of wrong! chuckles... Sounds like you are on the right path, with the Porters- then. Try, Evil Twin- Lil B.
Ahh baby!!, The makers and the elijah were fantastic. Im not a fan of the "buttery" flavor many of the barrel aged ones have. These two were the least of that type, and were damn tasty. The evans was good as were all of them, and the totality is awesome. So I will just be ordering these in the next few months. The pappy is supposed to be the best, hopefully I can score some to taste. I know its a stiff price, but damn is it worth it.
Dogfish Head 60 minute IPA right now. Goooood stuff! (An overall better beer than their 90-minute version, IMO.)
Nope, I've had it before. I worked on the day Tustin Brewing Co had there's and not really into waiting over 2 hours for a 4oz pour. Selma's in RSM is having theirs on Mar 3. Mar 4 for the Ladera Ranch location. Selling wristbands at 10:30 and then pouring from 4pm-7pm. I'll have plenty of other good beers to get by. In fact, I'm having one of those Pliny right now
