I'm gonna be camping at Montana De Oro next month. Any good ideas for rides? I know there's a couple of trails there, any particular routes you can suggest? Anywhere else I should check out?

I just picked up this Trek Stache 8 so I could have a backup bike when my Pivot was down. I had planned on getting the Santa Cruz Tallboy LTC, the best bike I have ridden IMHO, but funds became an issue. Matt at Jax in LB loaned me his Stache and after one ride I was sold. This is the first hardtail I have owned and I love it. It is a fun all around bike and a great backup for sure, if not my new everyday ride. I added the Reverb Stealth dropper post, HT pedals, and Raceface Atlas bars with OURY grips(not shown). I also purchased the 5 year Redshield protection which I have used in the past with a great deal of satisfaction.

So I took it out for a little shake down ride..

I'm recovering from an encounter with a deer, and he won. So today I'm 9 weeks post op.. so, per the wife and Dr, no mountain biking.. I have however done a little road riding the past couple of days pain free, so I'll just take a little road ride, make sure everything fits..

The first thing I noticed was the seat needed a small amount of adjustment. Also, the FOX CTD shocks work really well, I pretty much stayed in Trail mode. As expected, works great with the frame.

So I got to Aliso and decided to go in... I'll just ride the main road in a little.. switched the shocks to D mode, to keep it as plush as possible..

The carbon rims are STIFF!! Need to play with the tire pressures. The Czar wants to go.. I was running about 11.5 mph pace.. usually I'm in the 9's 10 on a good day.. and I really wasn't pushing..

I stopped at the bottom of Cholla, next time..

On the way out I almost crapped myself!!!

    Beast!!!

35.7 miles later I'm uploading pics for you guys!

Everything is tight and shifts well. The brakes don't rub, and the seat is finally adjusted right.

Now I need to heal up a bit more then I'll give it a sound thrashing.. but for now, I made a GREAT choice for my first 29er!!

    Welcome to MTBing

Yamadan, that Czar is gorgeous, and I'm looking forward to a full RR as you get healthier.

And in case there's anyone who hasn't read the truly epic build report behind this bike, it's worth posting the link again:

    Congrats!

A couple of our 29er's. My wife rocking her new Stumpy 29er EVO (I know Spesh haters...go ahead and hate but she loves it) riding Nascar, and my newest addition to the stable.

Not gonna hate here - the Stumpy rides nice (I demo'd one).

What's that thing at the base of your seat post, on the back side? A Light?

Ah, that makes sense. I ride much the same bike, and so it stood out to me is all.
