Oooh sounds awesome. We're bringing out EZ-up as well so we can hopefully get some peace from the rain.

This rule is generally about a class/division, Steph's little issue is she's Expert DH & Sport XC two very different styles of racing :-k Plus we all know it's a big jump to XC expert.

I'd be really interested in seeing how they handle it. I'd say go for it and race expert, but who am I? I think you'd be just fine.Your doing great this year!

FWIW: I don't think your in it to sandbagg.
Hopefully it'll just rain at night *wishful thinking*

Personally, I wouldn't do the stage race if that is the case... The XC expert is way later Sunday afternoon, and is quite a bit longer. Not to mention super fast competition for ST and then XC? I'm nowhere near the Expert level at a national level event! It's different than SRC which is just a local race series.

    i didn't even think about that #-o

You know i've always wondered, why do they run the faster guys so late at most races?

Usually your biggest group is sport and once they're done everyone leaves.

Plenty of people we know that raced expert/pro are just happy to have a few people stay for their race.

Not much praise for working your way up :?:

Okay - being that 2 of the 3 races are considered XC, the answer should be very clear.

IMO, their race is longer. Kinda makes sense so that sport/beginners who do shorter races don't have to wait around. Either way I'm sure someone isn't happy. Usually the pro's are finishing in between beginner and Sport at SRC, but it's a smaller field overall.

At Mt. SAC they had the pro's go first, I believe, and beginners last. And at Bonelli they had the Pro/Expert go later as well.

Not everyone leaves, though. I think sometimes they do it later so that everyone else is there and can spectate, instead of sleeping in, or prepping for their own race :?:

I'm sure that Steph is the first person to bring it up, because she's the first to be conscientious about it.

BTW, unless she was talking about DH, how is "Joy said she had an expert license for XC but wanted to race Sport also (she isn't doing the stage race, though)." not sandbagging?

This year, at Bonelli, pro/semi-pro started first and everyone started in waves after that. I can understand the frustration of racing with beginners when you're a pro though, some are TRUE beginners!

    Totally agree!

*JOY* - I was under the inpression she was talking about DH not XC and if she's *JOY* not doing the stage race does her win even count (I guess I need to go read the flyer)

I am not saying it's okay to sandbagg, trust me!

Neil races clyde, because he's a *real clyde* and would like a more level playing field, he gets his fair share of 201 - 205 guys who just want the win (they're middle of the pack sport/expert racers) it gets pretty lame. It actually took the fun out of racing for him. Too much $ down the drain for racing against a bunch of cheaters! (IMHO)

One way or the other, Guess you can't please everyone...

Joy and Steph are two separate people with two separate issues. Traci was saying that she didn't think Steph was trying to sandbag :?:

I have no idea what Joy is doing. She wasn't planning on racing the stage race.

I agree but when two of the three events are XC oriented (XC and ST), then it would seem that whatever you are ranked as in those events would prevail (majority rules?) Sure, I've done VQ but that wasn't a race for me. And, I've been racing the Fontana winter series but we all know local races and national races are on different levels, competition-wise.

It's an 8 mile jump, to be precise :)

We all know from VQ that the time you can make up on the DH will never compare to the time you need to make up on the climbing (i.e. XC)!

Hey mechmann...this whole "Steph returning to XC racing thing" is your fault anyway!! I say, we all blame you :D:lol:

    j/k :D

Point well made about the longer travel bike, btw.

And, I believe you may be trying to keep up with Allison and me on the XC...

Not to worry. The trails up there do really well with rain. In fact, a little rain will only improve traction on the course.

    rain

Upchuck is right. We have been dry for over two weeks. It would have to rain a ton for the trails to get sloppy.

Can someone make it rain all Thursday and early Friday before the races and practice, to improve the texture and keep the dust down? Any rain dancers out there? My crystal ball says the board is going to be short of posters this weekend. :bang: :steppie: :welcome: Friday will be centered around Kern River Pub and Grub up in Kernville, no one has mentioned a gathering time there yet. Happy Hour at 6pm sound good?
