I am really thinking of picking up the 09 Fox 32 Talas 140 RLC and was wondering what everyones thought is about this shock? Reliable? History or problems? Worth the money? I really like the travel adjustment and Fox is a pretty well known company.

It's a great fork. You can't go wrong. I've had zero problems with the two I have plus you can always get it Push'd if you want to really dial it in. Definitely worth the money. If you want the 15qr get the '09, if you're going to run a standard qr, you can get a great deal on an '08.

    Thanks dssgaffler!

    Anyone else with opinions?

Is the 15QR thru-axle system optional? or is that standard for all new 09 Talas?

They won't push a RLC as it's got everything done to it that can be done. Great fork but I've had issues with two of them. One I demolished but Fox gave me a new one even though it was well out of warranty. My 07 is okay but not as compliant as my 02 fork although I know there was some different engineering in the 07. And it may just be my lack of knowledge in the fine tuning of it. I'd still recommend it.

    Get the Thru Axle

I run the TALAS 36 RC and love it. I switched to T/A on all my forks some time ago and will never go back to QR.

Any adjustable travel air system is going to need a bit more maintenance. The Talas is the best bet going, and it feels great. If you are not going to use the travel adjust, consider the Float.

I will def use the Travel Adjustment. I can change the travel for uphill and downhill which I really like and its so easy to change it with just a click. My friend has the reveleation and to change the travel you have to keep turning the knob and wait for it slowly to change travel.

I had a Talas on my 03 Trek Liquid. It was really the best part of the bike. I have since sold the bike to a friend. He is still riding it and has just the regular maintenance done to it. It was very smooth and confidence inspiring for the 4 years that I rode it.

In short yes I would highly recommend it and when I have to buy another fork for my current bike it will be a Fox.

    Fox Talas Rules!

When I was building up my BLT, I was considering going for the Vanilla but soooo glad I listened to a friend and picked up the Talas 32 RLC. I loved this fork from day one. I love to climb and use the adjustable travel all the time. It's great to be able to crunch down the fork to 100mm when it gets steep and technical. Plus, I'll put the fork down to 120 when I'm rocking through singletrack. And when it's time to bomb down stuff like Rock-It, the 140 is smooth as buttah. The lockout is great on long extended climbs up fireroads.

I don't have the 15 thru-axle and first thought the front end was flexy. But that was remedied when I switched to a more beefier wheelset. I have never felt more confident on descents so I can only imagine what it would feel like with the thru-axle. Once Chris King comes out with an adaptor kit for its ISO hub, I'll think about making the switch.

In summary, you're getting 3 forks in one. I've been riding this fork for about 6-8 months now and have no complaints whatsoever (knock on wood). Good luck!

The Talas is the best fork in it's category, hands down. If you have a problem, Fox's service has had mixed reviews but the best way to avoid that is to make sure you do all the suggested maintainence (by an authorized dealer while under warranty).

    I just pre-ordered a 2010 36 Talas RC2 for my 6.6........

I loved my 08 TALAS 36 RC2 right up until it seized in the fully extended (160) position. Sent it to Fox and they wanted $380 to fix it, and I had it less than a year. After some arguing, we got them down to $180. I haven't received it back yet. In the meantime, I bought a Magura Wotan (also travel adjustable). It's a great fork too. More plush than the Fox, but not sure if it's as good at speed. Get the TALAS or the Magura Thor. It's like riding two bikes in one - an uphill bike and a dh bike. Get the thru axle if you can. Enjoy.

I like the quick travel adjustment, but hate the compression damping. Too active at the top of the travel and ramps up hard at the bottom half of the stroke. Linear it is NOT.

Just make sure you get a fork the right travel for your bike. 160mm on a 90's hardtail ment for a 80mm fork= no more head tube.

Good fork, very plush, stiff and tunable. I believe you can still get it in QR or 15mm is an option.

Other great options are the Magura Thor (With handlebar travel adjust) and the DT Swiss XMC (with LCS rebound lock which acts both as a lockout and travel adjust in one)
