YOUR RECOMMENDATION: AM WHEELSET ..20mm front/135mm rear & IS hubs

:?: LMK what you'd recommend. I'd prefer something that is in the neighborhood of 25-30mm wide and as close 2,000g as possible.

Cosmetics are not too important, but strength to weight ratio is key.

I want to climb with minimal effort and jump, drop, and rail with confidence.. :-k isn't this what most of us seek in general #-o

my money would be on a set of hope hoops. that's Hope Pro II hubs laced to DT 5.1's. good hubs, good rims, comes in about 1900g iirc.

fwiw, I know of a few people with those on their DH bikes (albeit with the 150mm rear hub), that have no trouble with them.

You can search for many similar RFI's to yours.

The short answer. I run hope pro II's with mavic 823's and dt swiss comps. Price performance factor is amazing the only draw back is that they are a bit on the heavy side for XC riding. I'd suggets the same with 819's for most people.

I like 5.1s but lots of people say they are too soft.

You could get Transition Revolution AM wheelset

Sorry those arent close to 2000g to the weight goal at 2550g

550 grams for a set of what is known to be a strong, very strong wheel isnt much of a difference, the weight to strength ratio is still there
But yes, you could go with the Transition AM set as well..... its teh same wheelset I have but with DB spokes.

I agree, go with the Easton Havoc AM. 28mm wide, 1875g a pair, they're 9mmQR/15mm/20mm convertable, they roll well and they're on sale at Jensons for $399 right now.
I've had a set for over a year and they've been great.

I would go with a set of Fulcrum RedFire wheels. 2200g a set and strong. They would set you back about 800$

DT Swiss 1750 as in 1750 grams/set. You see a lot of DH bikes with this wheelset (well, at least in the mags and on vids). Granted, Sam Hill and Steve Peat can get new ones whenever they need. I've had mine for almost 3 years. I weigh 210 and I'm not subtle. Rip down Rock-it, solid down Stairs, many small jumps to flat. I've collected a couple of dings from running my air pressure too low, and one broken spoke. Hubs are great. Don't pay the $900 asking price, you can probably get a shop to sell you a set for $750.

DT Swiss EX 1750's all the way.I have the Easton as well and outside of a few broken spokes they are about as good as you can get for $400.00.

Roval Traversee'. 1520grams and strong enough for me. I'm 230+ w/gear. I don't do any crazy stunts, but I make up for it in lack of skills......

DT 240 internals on the rear hub, so if you don't like the freehub engagement, you can upgrade to the new 36 point ratchet system.

    Front hub also comes with the following adapters 9mmqr, 15mmqrT/A, 20mm T/A, 25mm T/A.

    Makes for one versatile wheelset.

    550 grams is 25%. Is 25% not a lot?

Those weigh 2350 hence the name. 1050 sounds like front wheel only.

I have hope pro II hubs on mavic en521s. Solid XC/AM wheelset for the price. I would have gone 823s if I was into the tubeless thing. Really nice having easily swappable front caps from 9qr, 9 bolt thru, 15QR TA, and 20TA. Rear axle can also be converted to accept 12mm TA, but it requires a new axle (which is more expensive and involved than swapping the front hub caps).

Still.... looking at costVS strength vs weight.... All those are inline for a great wheelset.
