My buddies and I went to Bootleg last Friday. We decided to try out the Super D course for fun. On our way down, a rider passed by us and accidentally fell off the side of the trail. He slid down a jagged wall of rocks and landed 15-20' head first. He seemed OK when he got up... I hope he doesn't have any serious injury after.

Nice. No armor, clipless pedals (not that there's anything wrong with that)...hardcore indeed. At least he had a 575, not a hardtail or a cyclocross bike. :)

Plenty of people ride bootleg XC trails with no armor. I remember one local guy who rode most everything there except the DH trails on a 29er hardtail and he said he rode here 2-3 times a week. I would ride the super D course with no armor.

If you fall at Bootleg, the rocks will cut you!!! So, it's simple, just don't fall!!!

Wear the armor, it will ensure you don't fall - you only need it when you don't have it...

I ride there a few times per year myself but I've never been there before after or during races.. which trails make up the Super D course? Do you kow? I'm curious.. I assume it starts at the top of Snakeback and ends up somewhere else in the XC trails or does it start somewhere else completely on the actual XC trail network? Thanks..

I believe it starts at the Powerline! It's on the left side where the shuttle truck drops us off!
