Coming down Chiquita Ridge (I think that is the name) onto Tijeras almost at the bottom I hit a turn, bad line, hit a sharp rock and attempt to defy the laws of gravity with a OTB somersault dismount that had land in a tangle mess with the El Mar and my knee straight into a pointy rock. Good news is my left ankle and shin don't look so bad compared to the right knee. Does cause for a funky gimp limp when both legs are messed up. Thank god for gloves. Never ride without. Hand is swollen and sore as hell, but has all of it's skin. After about ten minutes I did manage to finish the rest of the loop. I was determined to show my friend Todd the rest of the Loop. He lives in Ladera and is just getting back into riding. We were breaking in his new 29er Rockhopper. He wasn't aware of the whole loop, so I wanted to show him Waterworks. Luckily the rest of the route was easy (nothing remotely sketchy), just hurt like an SOB. Puncture wound in the knee is looking kind of gnar.
Not sure on his last name. I took a few shots, most were blurry. Stinking upside down DSLR. The one of the blood soaked shorts came out. Still not exactly sure what happened. Bobbed when I should I have weaved I guess. Though somehow my front tire was really low. I am thinking it may have been the culprit. It was full when I left. I pumped it up after the crash and it lasted the rest of the ride (1 1/2 hours or so). Very strange. As a side note, a couple parts of the Tijeras Creek trail are washed out. Right past the baseball field it is really bad and roped off. Almost like a sink hole. Also, if you don't take the ridge behind Coto you can't really take the short cut across the stream next to Antonio (?). It is all washed out with no easy way down. That is the route I usually take. This was the first time I came across the ridge to this descent.
