Trails are in great shape! OCparks and volunteers (Share MTB I think?) closed off Cactus yesterday to do trail maintenance. They rerouted the lower portion of the cactus trail, just after the switch back. Its nice and smooth and not super wide like the old trail.

Also, the cement drainage thing on Raptor Ridge has been filled in with dirt.

This was something the Rangers wanted to do for a while. The problem area was where that long straightaway ended at a sharp turn, and it was constantly getting torn up.

So Rangers Sean and John, along with Ken and Steve from SHARE, Kevin from Oakley and I put our heads together and created a reroute. It starts with a bit of a drop, then runs parallel before reconnecting with the main trail. It immediately goes through a little chicane that leads into the old the right-hander.

Hope it's a fun solution for everyone.

Kioti, I wish you would get off your fat a## and do something nice for the trails around here!

Seriously though, do you ever allow yourself time to ride the fruits of your labor? We do - and it's fun!

Glad I was part of this, but it wasn't all me. Each of us had our own ideas, so in the end it was 6 cooks and one little bowl of soup.

    Hope it's tasty! :)

Does it count if I threw some flats on my bike and brought it for test rides? We took turns blazing through the brush, and eventually on our new trail, to see how it was working. Making new trails is fun. :)

    Whiting today,

All of mustard has been regraded, fresh terrain. Starting from the bench at the end of Borrego to the top. Dont let the loose terrain discourage you. Plenty of room to pick a fresh line. You can see Mini cats and tractors across the way at corners Bench.

If your flying down via water tank that of Santiago rd. watch out. When your eye sight meshes with the tractor as your coming over the hump, just keep to the right.

    Other than that, excellent conditions..

Whiting this Morning, good conditions as usual, Did find a sign down.

Live oak Raptor post is down - Across the way when exiting Live oak trail, left hand side if coming from parking Lot that of raptor. Sign is towards the bottom of the trail, closest to Glenn Ranch Rd. Sign looks to be a clean cut, does not appear to be tampered with, as if some one tried to dig it out. Someone may of taken a good it and kept on ticking or Termites, dunno.

Kioti, may be you can do your magic =)

That sign was down yesterday evening around 6pm. I thought something was missing and my son saw it on top of the berm across from where its supposed to be. That had to hurt if someone hit it! Owww.

^ I should of moved it, if someone was flying down Raptor and decide to go over that Berm, they could get hurt. Maybe if a get a chance this morning i can do that.

^^ I think the Ranger would appreciate that. Just set it out of the way of riders so it's not a hazard, but easy to see. Thank you, Mario!

    Bright and early morning ride,

Made the move on the sign, its now flush up against the brush well above the Berm and no longer a hazard to anyone. Placed it on raptor side directly across Live oak. Something tells me its not made out of wood, freaking thing weighs a ton. I should drag that when trail riding.

I just got done with the standard loop....well, I expected to do the standard loop until I got to Serrano Cow Trail and found it closed. According to the park web site, it's closed due to bee activity. Really? I dunno - sounds like a government cover story to me. I was not real happy about trading flowing singletrack for that ugly little climb up Line Shack. Once I got down Line Shack and onto the brief bits of road before and after Live Oak, I discovered they've done a bit of grading here and there. Otherwise everything's in pretty good shape right now, and even the dreaded sand pit on Borrego still has a good packed line through it.

    Happy riding!

Hit that little detour as well. That climb to line shack sucked! Bee activity! Ridiculous.... it's nature, there's going to be bees. I would have been okay if it was closed for maintentance, but bees?!?!

I did see two big trucks at the exit that of Portal, did not think it would effect it that deep in. Maybe make a left up Captors I think towards the parking lot.
