Well, I bought a new camera the other day so I have updated pics now instead of the ebay pics I was using - enjoy. Bike is believed to by almost all original and in super minty condition - I bought it from an ebay bike shop for 375.00 S&H included and I believe it to be a demo bike as of there is only once scratch on it under the top-tube you cant even see and the parts show little to no wear. Anyway, I love it, it looks and rides great, I took it out down town |(ventura main street) the other day and the bike even turned a few heads. :)

Right down to the gum wall tires, you might have a contender for the STR vintage ride there.

My wife just recently stopped riding hers. It's a light xc race bike.
Frame is 5-1/2 lbs or so. Everyone who says that they used to have one say the loved the bike.

Mine was around $1500 new from the Bike Beat.

Which is pretty much why I still have mine :)

The shocks you got are upgrades - originally that bike shipped with rubber bumpers which provided about as much give as pencil erasers. You gotta take a better shot of that notch in the downtube for the pre-Vbrake rear brake cable!

BTW, my original 856 frame developed cracks along the bottom bracket welds and was replaced under warranty which is how I ended up with a Proflex Beast. Fun, fast bike but it's just a little too small for me to take out very often.

Oh yeah...I'm in a Proflex forum and they said the same thing, since this bike as you said originally came with elastomers its belived to actually be a late 95 model that Proflex put the springs on it, they are a bit soft though, I have a 300 in the rear and a 250 up front, the front I like but I got sag with the 300.

Check out the K2/Proflex forum, there are a bunch of us there, really cool people.

    Man, total flashback.
I still have some brand new Proflex jerseys and matching shorts from 95-96 sometime. I might even have some rebuild parts for that fork somewhere... somewhere..
Back then I worked at a shop that was a Proflex dealer and got a special deal on a couple of fames (red one & blue one), a fork, and some gear. I rode the Cactus Cup in Scottsdale on that bike, took 2nd in the time trial & 1st in XC!
I really liked that bike, but broke one of them around the bottom bracket area. Even though I received the frame from Proflex for free as a promotional item, they shipped me a new replacement for nothing.
It was my first full suspension bike and I still remember how freakin stoked I was when I discovered the new different lines you could take on an FS bike. I have a few pictures in my mind of the exact moments where I remember being really stoked on how cool that bike was to ride. I've owned many bikes since that one but none of them have left quite an impression on me.

Cool bike. Need parts for mine

    Hello,

Cool bike. I have a 96 856. I can't seem to find any springs for the shocks or elastomers for that matter. I have emailed the shop rapid descent in Scotland but have heard nothing.

I would like to ride this bike again. I bought it new and put about 3k miles on the thing back in the day.

Anyone know of any suppliers of the springs for the shocks?

    thanks
    Richard

Thanks, thats one reason I love this thing - the forks just look beasty and intimidating. (at least when the bike is headed towards you down a trail at 30mph)
