To get ready for a xc race your going to wanna get you body use too getting it's heart up and recovering and then getting it back up again. This called interval training. You can use a heart rate monitor or just push hard for a distance or time. It be good to start out with some strenght training now and later on start doing intervals at aliso Whitting etc. Anyone have anything to add to this??

Probably be good to lay off the beers too.

In all seriousness, good advice Matt. I'm gonna start riding around town up to Signal Hill after work starting next week. There are some steep climbs I can push hard on and then take it easy. I'm going to make a little training loop. Who knows, I may have to sprint home to avoid getting bike jacked!!!

I was thinking bout this too...

This XC race next month is totally different from the CC/VQ. This will require much more cardio and power/strentgh as the VQ is pure Endurance/suffering.

Lately on these rainy days Ive been hitting the gym riding the bike. They have different "levels" and one Ive been using is the sprints. This really gets my heart going along with the sweat drippage.

Anyone lift or doing anything off the bike to improve your riding???

Squats are simply amazing. I've been laying off doing them recently as they make you extremely sore at first and it takes days for the legs to recover, which is no fun when your riding a couple days a week.
