Did It Rain? I Was Out Of Town...

Looking to ride tomorrow, but wasn't sure if it rained in SoCal...

Planning on riding Sycamore Cyn (Pt. Mugu), but wanted to be sure I didn't wreck the trails...

    Thanks...

Didn't rain anywhere I was today. Laguna Beach over the Ortega Highway to Wildomar and back again tonight. No rain. That's a long ways from Pt. Mugu, but I like answering posts no matter how irrelevant my information. :?:

Mugu is nice, backbone and Guad ride like late spring except not many bushes to strike. Temps are perfect. Down hill shoulders are soft
Rode it this evening totally sweet and empty

Sounds like you may have already hit it...
I live by the park... it did rain very lightly in the area in the afternoon. It didn't really amount to enough to do anything other than make the surface tacky. However, we got a more prolonged steady soaker early this morning before sunrise. I would guess that the trails will be perfect. You'd really need multiple days of rain to generate any mud on these trails. Quad is in the same shape it has been for a couple of years... I did notice that the poison oak is starting to creap into the trail-space in the lower part of the trail. We're seeing tons of baby rattlers in the upper areas of the park (Two Foxes and Satwiwa area).

Is it just near there, or burning through the campground/trails? :(

So sad. I was planning a day trip up there for May.

I heard they are predicting the winds to shift to ON-shore this afternoon, so maybe that will slow it down.

The sea breeze is up and pushing the fire towards wood canyon and the black blitch. The secret path through Olympia Farms is ready to go in about 10 minutes. Too bad the sea breeze came up

Looks like just the fire starts adjacent to the parking lot, and continues north/west... Seems Ranch Center Rd and Wood Canyon are safe for now...

Go here for an semi-interactive map... http://fire.countyofventura.org/

Fixed wing just flew over, it is now or...........that is Guadalasca trail on channel 5
They are laying a Phos-chek line between Wood and Sycamore.
Looks like lower Wood cyn is fully engaged.
5:45 Wind just shifted towards Boney. That does not bode well for Sycamore. News will not show it, they are focused on the backfires in DV

I was hoping that the winds would push it down to the farmland where it could be stopped, but the sea breeze seems to be pushing it East into Sycamore. Hard to say by the news footage, but I think I spotted one of the front lines around the dry pond above Wood Canyon. I don't see how anything West of Sycamore Canyon is going to be saved... if the fire jumps to the East of the Canyon, it's going to be a whole 'nother ball game.... much thicker brush to the East.

All of the legal trails in Sycamore are on the West side. Most of the trail system around Dos Vientos was burned earlier in the day.
The trails will be OK, the brush will recover... but closures are likely.

I live in Dos Vientos and I've had flames very close to me today. My good friend's brother in-law is the batt chief for Ventura County fire who's in charge and so far Point Mugu is safe but it could change as I type. I was just up riding above the trails yesterday that burned today and it's a very surreal feeling.

Looks like Sycamore is feeling the wrath. I saw a news copter view and the top of the Black Blitch is on fire. Coyote is burning.. Still trending east. Fire in the canyon is a mile or so below the ranch house and the Hell Hill canyon is burning. Wood canyon was burnt over.
In Middle Sycamore it has crested the east ridge and is burning towards Serano. Overlook fire road has burnt.
Heading down canyon, towards Deer Creek and will probably consume Boney tonight.
So basically it is wiping out all the bike trails and some of the road ride climbs

I just spoke to 4 US Park Rangers and there's a strong chance they may do a back fire from the Satiwa area down to Wood Canyon. If it it's Boney, it will go all the way to Hollywood. Within the last 30 minutes, the wind has shifted off shore again. All the ST on the west side is burned.

It sounds like the fire made it to the Pacific Ocean, and it's burned 8,000 acres. That's a real bummer, I hope this one gets squashed fast. Supposed to be a hot one tomorrow.
