I loved my Y-bike, that's why they call me Y-NOT. I put on a Risse coil shock and a Z-1 fork and away I went. I may have to get that thing back and on the trails....

A guy here at my workstill rides one of these and can't figure out why he is so slow. The shock looking thing isn't a schock at all. it's a bunch of PVC/polycarbonate rings. Very lame!

Up close these are pretty cool looking. Although I would hate race one in the mud... your uber lite frame just turned into a 50 Lb mud bog.

Were there reliability problems with those, or were they merely super-expensive and easily filled up with mud?

^^ I believe there was in fact a head tube issue where they used the wrong glue on the bikes that were shown at Interbike, and they FAILed. That was a fairly significant snafu that was fixed immediately, but perhaps that damage was done? I raced at Temecula and saw one (or more) out there being ridden. Pretty cool to see out on the course, but extremely weird as well.

The Trek Y brought back memories......

My buddy and I had the Y22. I love mine. He could fly down links barely touching his brake levers the whole way down.

I broke 2 of these! They didn't last long and were double the effort for climbing.

    Y's are cool

Hey, Man in a Shed - I am that tool DGaspar's buddy with the 95 Y11 (flat purple). And yes I still think it is the coolest bike design ever. Simple and sort of effective. Best thing is it really teaches you how to pedal properly, circular motion non-pumping, so you can eliminate the pogo effect without getting a lock-out shock.

I was lucky and mine came with the Alps Air Shock back in95 and not the coil over. Its nice as I can tune it to "almost" my wieght. 15 years and no leaks in the shock and no re-build, I'd say pretty good.

Now I have an 06 Marzocchi Bomber with ETA (150mm trvel) on the front and Magura 33 hydraulic rim brakes all around. The real problem is the Magura's actrually push the URT apart instead of clamping down on the rim. (even with the brace).

Been through four other front shock, 2 Mag21's and 2 Judy SL. Was wondering what you thought the effect of puttng such a long travel shock up front is? It definetly re-raked the bike and slacked the head angle. Rides nice and takes impacts well. (As I blew the 2.5" tire and tacco'd the rim on a 2' rock face in the Lawill class!)

Since I got the 2009 Remedy I was thinking about setting the Y up for tru XC racing. Even with the long shock the bike is still only about 23lbs. Yeah, cool and the lightest FS bike ever.

Yeah, I know this is a "worst bike" thread but had to get in on this.

Its ugle and Cannondale dressed it funny. Nice head shock. (need a better sarcastic emoticon)

    Big, heavy, expensive and ugly.

Hope MiaS didn't work on this one.
