Mammoth doesn't need the summer. They make enough during the winter. Summer is just icing on the cake.

I think Mammoth will invest as necessary and make the additional trail plans happen faster than they would have happened before.. I think this is a very good thing (I hope)..

Huh? Have you been up there the last couple winters... mammoth the town is hanging on by a thread... Mammoth mountain may be in a little better shape but it's not had the kind of ski seasons that they or most of us want... That said will MM add more trails because SS kicking BUTT? who knows... .

I sure hope so! Just got back from 4 days at Mammoth...LOVE that place! Would be awesome if they brought some of their trailbuilding style to summit...I would love something along the lines of Bullet, velocity, chainsmoke, or flow! Not to take away from the DJ style jumptrails already there at summit, but some old skool stuff would be fantastic

we did mammoth last weekend and i enjoyed it but prefer Snow Summit
Trails at MM are good and fun but at SS the trails were better kept, flowed better and the dirt is good as they water

Mammoth can't do much with a lot of that dirt whether they water it or not.. it's kitty litter.. that's why I'd think they see the potential in SS.. better dirt and better proximity to SoCal day trippers..

I don't see Mammoth shutting SS down for a number of reasons. One Mammoth doesn't own them those who own Mammoth do. They are not here to make more money at Mammoth, but to make more money period. They know they only got a small % of the SS business so they aren't looking to lose those dollars. Two remember the park started before it went for sale so you know they had to pay more for SS since now there is a bigger revenue stream with the bike park open.

Dunno about that new jump on MM
In order to clear it you have to pedal into berm and out of it to the jump
Out of 10 guys I saw 9 cased the landing

It does seem* to require more speed than you naturally can carry out of that berm. We saw a good number of people do spectacular things on that jump last weekend, but every one we talked to said the same thing you did...it takes some good pedalling after the berm.

*From observation. My balls ain't big enough to try that one. [-X

Gotta say, I wish they had kept the old stepup...I think Mammoth has a better scenario going with Pipeline, where there are two lanes, one with tables and the other with gaps. Seems like this idea would be perfect for a bike park that is hamstrung on number of trails/miles allowed to build by the FS....

    How dare you, sir...

You will now feel the wrath of those who do not want you to have a line you are comfortable jumping. Sack up or get out!!!!!

(NOTE: Sarcasm based on my own experience with making similar suggestions.)

Great day at SS today.. weather was perfect, crowds not bad (especially later in the day) and the kids were killing it. We rode with a few friends who Ryan races with, and we had a blast. My buddy went down hard overshooting the 650B and just kept flying as his nose dove hard.. the impact left him breathless and gurgling, and we think he may have blacked out briefly, so he got checked by SS EMTs to make sure.. he's fine but he is going to be very sore! Anyway, I also agree with zman on the new MM jump, but I digress.. lots of people casing it, but as Chris noted above (tongue in cheek) sack up or get out is the motto.. anyway, my kid loves these jumps, as do his riding partners.. but there was no shortage of people casing that jump.. I included a couple of jump clips from today, including Ryan and his friend Dante killing the Step Up as well as Ryan pedaling his little butt off coming out of that MM berm heading into the new ramp.. in this case I am going to blame his small stature and incorrect gear choice (not the berm) otherwise I am confident he could have flown a couple more feet and cleared that knuckle..

I've done landings like that, but not as severe. Is it contributed to on the take-off, or by something done while in the air? (I know applying the brakes in the air will roll you forward, but I'm not doing that, and I assume that didn't happen here.)

IMO looked like not enough speed to clear that double and pushing down to soon

Weird! Came to read updates and saw you mention your buddy's crash. Then, I went on Facebook and saw that it was a friend I grew up with! Small world...

Dayummm...it seems every third post is about someone getting messed up on something moderate. Great style and smooth, right up until it was neither. Healing vibes to your buddy.
