You got off easy stud! People have died when they've done what you did. I know this for a fact!
Glad you weren't killed for sure!
So let me get this straight, (if I am capable of such a thing) you hit a truck while going 17 mph? **cough**(tard)*cough* Please tell me you were going up an 8% grade and had your head down, standing mightily out of the saddle, rocking the bike back and forth powering towards the summit! Please?
BTW, this is why I don't ride road!
All in fun sir! Certainly glad you're ok. Maybe take the season off so you can kill 'em next season!
If you need anything at all. call Maxwell. He's closer!! ;)

    So sorry, grasshopper

to hear about the accident. The good news is that they are doing incredible things with spinal surgery today. I'm sure you'll be back hitting the trails again (no pun intended here). The body is an amazing thing it just keeps taking all the sh*t we throw at it. Heal quickly bro. We'll have to do a Spinal Tap ride in a couple of months.

I've seen you take a couple of good diggers and you always seem to just get up afterwards. I don't doubt you will come back strong from this one too. Get well soon.

Well, last Friday I was sitting with Justin (still strapped to the backboard) in the ER. He'd had xray's, CT scans, and was just back from his MRI.

Today he got his facial stitches out. We've seen his preferred doctor here in town (Dr. Hizon, who has been GREAT), and have two appointments on Monday to see both an ortho surgeon for his knee and an ortho spine surgeon for his neck. Dr. Hizon thinks we are on the correct treatment path, but just wants to ensure that no surgery is necessary while Justin is already incapacitated. He's still pretty laid up, and car trips to the doctor are painful and slow (every bump in the road is jarring).

We're trying to manage the pain and take it day by day.

Thank you everyone for the well wishes. We'll see where we're at next Friday :)

Don't let this dictate how you spend the rest of your life. Get healed quick (in relative terms) and get back on it.

Good luck to both of you. You'll be a team thru this also.

    Ouch!

Been there... done that... and I didn't like it either! Hang in there Justin. I finally had to have my spine taken care of by Dr Palmer (all those MT Bike crashes!) I'm at the end of my 2nd week after a 4.5 hr back surgery and the pain has mostly gone. Now it's another 4 weeks of healing before I can start doing my normal everyday activities, biking included. It would seem that one way or the other, we end up paying for this sport we all love so dearly. Keep a good positive mental attitude...I know you'll be back!

    :-k

Sadly, not really. We saw the spine surgeon again for a follow-up on Wednesday with new CT scans that really highlighted the bones. Last visit prior he had been saying Justin could take off the neck brace to eat, shower, and drive (he can't shower or drive due to the knee brace, however). This time he was not so confident in things. Said to wear the brace all the time, and maybe in about 2.5 weeks to start to ween off of it wearing it all day, except for an hour the first day, two hours the second, etc. He said he should be out of work for awhile longer as well.

Justin's still having a lot of referred pain in his left shoulder from the neck injuries, which aren't really any different than before. I guess stable is good.

We're seeing the ortho (knee) surgeon in San Diego in a bit, and hope to get some better news from him today about the knee.

Justin shaved last night, so his facial scars are in full bloom. They should get better with time, but I love him either way :)

He's not sleeping so well due to back pain, and has lost a LOT of weight.

    Day by day.

We're planning on heading up to Anaheim Hills in the morning for the Rock N' Road sale, so that'll be his biggest outing to date!

Thanks for the update and yikes!!! That boy doesn't need to lose any more weight. Is there a Paleo version of Ensure and does he need an intravenious drip?
