What is the status of Lizards. I ride by the entrance often and I see a lot of riders coming in and out. By the looks of the entrance it seems that the trail is heavily used. Is it officially open or closed?
It's definitely "closed". I saw the trailhead post in the Nix Center about 2 years ago. I got tired of asking them when it would open! It's really odd considering how fast Ed at Aliso can push a new trail through, although LCWP did get the Camarillo reroute done fast. In general, if it's not posted, it's not legal, although there are a few exceptions.
i didnt know they are trying to open it - that would be sweet! From what I heard...... its very tight right now and needs a trim on a few areas
I could have sworn I heard that it opened officially last year sometime. Are you sure it is still closed????
Yes its closed. I called the ranger a month or so ago after hearing the rumor of it being open. I simply asked what the current status was and he became defensive and told me closed. I wasnt trying to stir the pot and I truly was curious about it. Needless to say the call was awkward.
I have talked to the ranger down there and honestly he is not very nice or approachable .... to put it nicely. Basically our tax dollars go to support this stuff, I buy the state pass and park down there in the state lot often. But he does not seem like he enjoys his job - go figure -- its a beautiful place down there. Even when i was a total noob and would go ask him about the trails and so on- his attitude was like go figure it out yourself. I walked away thinking why is this guy even working here. oops - i am speaking of the guy at El Morro - Lizards might not be his trail - The guys at Nix are pretty good from the few times I have stopped by there.
Hahaa I think we must be talking about the same guy! It was the main number for El Morro that I called.
Before anyone asks, posting closed signs just get torn out. When there is a trail sign with the name of the trail on it like all legal trails in the OC Parks system, it'll be open. Until then, it's not.
