I saw a rattler near the bottom of the rock garden on Rockit during my solo ride on tuesday. They are definitely coming out again. I missed seeing them but running into one while riding solo is pretty sketchy.

And Cal Kings are awesome. You are lucky to have seen one (I've only seen one once)

I read in an outdoor magazine several years back about a guy that was bitten by a rattler and hooked up jumper cables to his battery and touched it to himself.Said it kept him from the venom poison.;)

Wait what? There's other snakes than rattlers? Why do they all look like rattle snakes to me?

Snakes are the only reason I know any "trick" on the bike. My 2 inch bunny hop.

I've heard they could tell if you're running tubeless or not.

The simpsons method! I love it!

One time 2 friends and i, all big smipsons fans, ran across a rattlesnake laying across our path. Luckily we all remembered the episode and stomped our feet. Sure enough! it slithered right off as soon as we started stomping.

Just got in from riding. Ran over a baby rattler, but it didn't seem bothered as it continued across the trail. It was gorgeous...a beige color with grey diamond patterns. Possibly Southern Pacific, but couldn't tell.

All last year I only saw 2 rattlers. (both within 100 feet of each other at Aliso, one before the fence on the dirt road near MILF the other one jsut on the other side of the fence. One was black and one was red. It was quite the interesting sight.

While hiking Sunday at Aliso on west ridge, I heard a rattler up ahead and then it started to go into a bush. Luckily, the people 40 feet ahead or so were the ones to discover it, haha. I am pretty scared of deadly snakes

Are you guys serious? Do you not know how to scan ahead on the trail? Or is it that it's cool to run over wildlife and then come and tell everyone about it? I'm confused, but I feel like it's happening too much.

Watch where you are going, and if you are not able to do that, don't come on here and brag to us about it.

I remember when I found a 2-3ft rattler (with its rattle still on) laying across the main trail at Aliso. I stopped and looked at it. I looked behind me and there was this random persian dude who came up and started cussing it at it for some strange reason. F-Bombs every two seconds. I just kinda stood there and stared at him.

Couple of seconds later, a group of ladies come along and they're busy talking to each other as I'm trying to stop them (they don't pay attention to me). Finally, I'm able to stop them as they go past me. They finally realize its there. They begin to freak out (i.e. scream). Persian dude goes into hero mode and starts throwing sand at the rattler. The rattler just gets pissed off and coils up. After watching the persian dude throw sand at it for a minute, the snake made its dramatic get-away by springing into the bush. (It was coiled up and decided to bail so it like jumped into the bush and started rattling its tail really loudly).

    Ahh... Aliso.

Edit: I edited the last part out because I'm horribly wrong. :)

Not to be rude, but pretty much everything you said here is false. :)

Um, yea, wrong. All rattlers are born without a rattle, then each time it sheds its skin, it gets a new "nub" added to the end of it's tail which forms the rattle after a few sheds.

Bruce, the guitar player in my band, was bitten on the left leg when he was 14. He lost the leg below the knee... but still rides! Them snakes do mean business.

Are snakes out and on the trails more during the day or at night. Would hate to run across one on a night ride. That would totally freak me out.
