Most of my reasons have posted already, but they are:
    1. Get back into shape and stay that way
    2. Have a few hours to disconnect
    3. Meet with friends and have a good time
    4. Meet new friends
    5. Charging the decents really helps me get my "fix" that I'm missing from my regular day-to-day

I ride because its heaps of fun and its easy to form riding groups locally.

IN addition its a cheap way to have hours of entertainment.

Let me qualify: Relatively cheaper in relation to other adrenaline sports and of course after the initial investment.

So I don't have to drive four hours every weekend to climb. I should calculate how quickly I can pay for a bike with that savings.

It's fun. And makes everything else more fun...beer, music, boinking.

    :)

At 44 years old I suddenly realized how out of shape I was. I had been smoking for 26 years but had quit drugs and alcohol 20 years ago. I knew I had to get my life back in order. I was still a workoholic and have always had a lot of energy.

So I'd seen some folks mtb'ing and it got my interest. I had rode dirt bikes for a number of years but didn't get a real workout like I needed and I wasn't big on running. So I knew if I paid a lot of money for a bike I'd be more committed to staying off cigarettes and that's what I did.

So I started to ride and found I loved it. My first ride I was so beat I came home took a shower and slept for the next 4 hours and was so sore I couldn't walk up the stairs for 3 days. Good Gawd, I found what I was looking for, very few sports would be this much fun and kick my ass so bad. So I think I ride because once a junkie, always a junkie. I just switched from drugs to adrenalin/endorphins. It seems to me the longer and the harder the ride the better I like it. There's something to be said about getting home around 4 or 5 just barely making it to the shower then falling out on the bed completely drained off all energy, where every fiber of your being is yelling Damn, I'm freekin beat. Yep, that's why I ride, plus I love the company.

    I ride for several reasons:
To begin with, for my health. I have a heart condition and figured the sport would help strengthen it.
    Now, there are several more:
Family.....I love the time I spend with my son and wife while we ride.
Camaraderie.....I love the time spent with new friends met on the trails and through various shops and STR.
Competition.....This is my second season riding OTH and though I may not be at the top in the standings, I'm at least finishing the course and I am not last.
Last but not least, I'm having fun!

There are many reasons why many of us ride & for me it's because i love nature aspect, gorgeous trails and work out. I like the mental and physical challenge part of it to. Met great people along the way & it also gives me my own time to exclude the outside and be one with mother nature.

Bad knees so can't run much anymore. For exercise, excitement and the hunt (ready & willing to engage in hand-to-hand combat with an apex predator).
