Because I live in Idaho:beer: being close to isolated wilderness is why I moved here from SoCal.
It is so tempting to discover all this open country on a mountain bike

    Its been said already, but:

    it feels good

Trails sometimes feel like a wave. When trails are cut into a steep face it can often feel like a massive dirt/plant wave unfolding before you and breaking behind you as you descend. Steep sections can feel like dropping in. A trail with good flow will almost peel away behind you as if you were on a board. Its not surfing, but its nice in its own right.

Another reason I like riding is geology. The ground changes. There's variety: super fast, smooth and flowy rock-free places, places where there's a little rock or sand, places where you you have to pick lines, or blow through, places with rocks that bite back, places that force you to walk....though you try damn hard not to.

A number of reasons in no particular order:

-Good friends to talk about anything in life, challenge me, and throw up with me ;)
-I work in I.T. so I really need to disconnect
    -Stay in shape
-Building a bike and taking it on a maiden voyage. There is something about that feeling I can't explain.
-See nature and areas of the world that most people would never see
-Be introduced to and drink new beers I haven't heard of

I ride to get away from all my worries and anxiety, atleast for a short while. I have been battling with depression and panic disorder for the past 7 years. I have found that simply getting outdoors and "pedaling" has helped me termendiously! I have also lost quite a bit of weight while cycling, which never hurts either... =]

Probably because it's just plain ole fun combine with the benefits of excersise, riding to the top or pushing to the top. I also was never a fan of team sports but was more into individual achievement an sports, and biking is something I can do myself. . I love nature and the solitude and get away from the whole thing that is LA. I just think it's fun.

I ride to get in shape, have fun, push myself, explore, meet new people, see new things, go further farther faster, get scared on the downhills, but most importantly to earn the post ride beer.
