Plus, there's a USFS trail volunteer named Mike Franke who's been putting in a ton of work on Chiquito and Viejo Tie-- mostly drainage to keep the trails from rutting out. He also did a bunch of work on lower Los Pinos recently, along with some repairs last Friday on San Juan. Make sure to thank him if you happen to see him out there. :bang:

I just rode up San Juan to Cocktail Rocks yesterday and I am not joking when I say that I've never seen it in such good condition. The switchbacks are in good shape with the exception of just a couple at the higher end (which were in really poor shape BEFORE the rain). A couple of small puddles and some small running water in a couple of areas, but otherwise in good shape - for San Juan. I say "for San Juan" because the ruts in the middle of the trail are still there where they always are - but if you have ridden the trail before you know what to expect. I would just say they are no worse than normal due to the rain. There had been some trailwork done last Fall, and it shows with the conditions of some of the dips - without the trailwork, shoring up, and sandbags I'm sure some sections of the trail would have been wiped out.

Has anybody done the entire SJT 12 mile shuttle route since the rain stopped? I'm wondering how well the trail held up from the top to Cocktail (since some people have already climbed from the bottom to Cocktail and that section sounds ok still). I'm considering going tomorrow moring. TIA.

We did Chiquito today, the trail is in good shape, a few trees on the trail, but the trail is in good shape.

EC is saying that the road up from the campground is closed at San Juan Trail due to the rains. I was there during the rains and it was open. I plan on riding there Sat....so can anyone confirm any road closures????

I'm planning on Saturday also. I heard it was open, but has anyone shuttled it in that past week that can confirm?

Merged with existing thread. Check previous post. It was 2 days ago but it was open then according to BIO.

You can check the USFS website for closures to FS roads here: http://www.fs.fed.us/r5/cleveland/conditions/

According to their site, Blue Jay is open. If there is any any doubt, call their district office at 951-736-1811

Cool! Although...I'm doing the Gravity Pirates night ride shuttle thing. Sounds like you're gonna soak up the sun. Post up conditions when you're done!

Just got home. Trail was great again and the weather was a lot warmer but definitely worth the time to ride there. Didnt get to ride with everyone else, fell behind with a leaking rear tube, couple knee/rock collisions and mostly waiting for others that ended up being way ahead #-o.
Anyways great ride and thanks to Frank for his emails and getting my butt back on the bike and meeting others the last couple weekends!

San Juan Trail, ok this weekend?

I am thinking about riding from the Hot Springs end. Having never been there, is a week without rain mean that it will be ok?

    Thanks!

    Mike

Thanks for the merge. I am still learning my way around the forum. Now I know what "sticky" refers to!
