Does anyone know of anything that will alleviate the discomfort of riding with a jammed thumb?

    Any way to wrap it?

What about taking Motrin to alleviate the pain? Will it cause stomach issues on a long ride?

    Thanks

    Thanks.

I need at least 800 mg and mostly use water, perpetuem, heed for refueling, not anything solid. Thus my concern.

Ice a couple times a day and salt baths, same as any sprained joint. You could splint or brace it but would take away from bike control, so I'd avoid that option when riding. Ibuprofen is fine if you keep it to reasonable levels, the stomach issue is more of a personal thing.

Obviously if it's severely jammed you should be thinking about an x-ray. A broken scaphoid would be a different story and could have some of the same symptoms.

    Thanks.

Been icing it regularly. It's definitely not a severe jam, doubt it's broken, doesn't hurt that bad. The swelling is down but still a pain to ride with.

What I'm finding online seems to suggest against doing it, but it seems all the references are against doing it on a regular basis (common sense).

Motrin!? Are you experiencing menstrual cramps? Just yank on your thumb to unjam it and pop a couple BAYER... 800mg of Motrin will burn a hole in your stomach... *I am not a doctor. Don't do anything I say... ever...

If the pain gets worse the more you push in you can tape it so you can only move it so far in a grip, I would make sure you can still grip good before you try riding with it.

    Thanks for the tips guys.

Went for a ride today and taping it helped a lot with shifting.
