My surgeon chose the same tactic. I was so bundled up in the arm/shoulder isolation device that I couldn't move if I wanted to. Best wishes for a sucessful recovery and rehab.

OTHRIDER are you out now with a broken scapula or is that a past injury?

A past injury - Easter of 2011. Thanks to vigorous rehab and starting a weight training system I'm now 95% on range of motion and 120+% on strength. The only times I notice is if I'm trying to throw something without warming up or laying flat on my back with no padding (changing truck oil). Feel free to PM me if you have more Q's. Good luck.

Daniel, this is Rob, best of luck for a speedy recovery. I think it's totally Matt's fault because he jinxed you by showing you his broken collar bone scar just before you left on your ride ;-) Take it easy and we'll see you out there soon.

Great to see the updates that you're home and on the way to recovery.

2 years ago I was hit by a truck (literally), breaking 5 ribs and my collarbone. Unlike some broken bones, you may have to give the ribs some time to heal - they may be sore for 2-3 months. Some people choose to leave the plate on the collarbone, but I couldn't wait to get mine off since I could feel it under the skin and it bothered me when wearing a seat belt or carrying a backpack or heavy Camelbak. It also took a lot of PT and removing the plate to get the last 5-10 degrees of motion back in my shoulder. But it seems like you have a good chance of a strong recovery and a return to all the activities you love.
Best of luck in your recovery!

    Waldo,

Thanks for telling me about removing the plate. I did not know that is an option. I'm going to talk to my surgeon about it.

Just make sure you do it as soon as it is safe to do so - because you'll have to basically start from scratch on the recovery. My surgeon said that it's basically like having to recover from a broken collarbone all over again, because there will be screw holes in the bone that have to mend, etc. That and the associated cost of another surgery are what prompted me to keep my plate. Also my plate is titanium so your steel plate may pose challenges that I didn't face.
