OK, to be clear and on topic, I just don't really see the need. I've seen forums collapse from over-compartmentalization. Everyone wants their own little sub-niche forum and eventually the site becomes too unwieldy for the moderators to manage or the users to navigate. As the site becomes too unuseable, and unfriendly, major groups will break away and go form their own site (not unlike how this site broke away from mtbr). I think the site already has too many forums and I don't have time to pop into them all to read. I find myself only reading the "hot topic" threads on the home page when you first login and the general, trailtalk and pub forums.

Maybe its because I consider myself an "all round" rider (I'll ride xc, dh, fr, road, commuting, etc); I enjoy reading threads about all aspects of the sport. I personally do not singlespeed or roll on 29" wheels, but I still read those threads. I find them informative and entertaining and you never know when some tidbit of information you read in some random thread might be useful someday.

I really don't know what you would discuss in a separate DH/FR forum that you couldn't already discuss in the general or trail head forums. Maybe if people used better thread titles when they posted it would be eaiser for people to find the content they want without the need for more forums.

I'm all for a dh forum. It needs to be set private though so the public can't veiw it and some sort of way to qualify existing members like the womens forum. That way people could post up about illegal/off the radar trails and the rangers that browse these boards wouldn't be able to see. You could even set up STR group rides on some of these trails

They already have one but it is invite only and you weren't invited.

So far it is just a few 909/714 riders (not counting the new codes), they do not like us Northerners. dirty rotten *$@#suckers. :protest:

Ok, just given the Mom a hard time;) but on a serious note, is there not a place set up like that already in the Social Groups? I believe there is but as I said, invite only.

The one problem I do see with that, if you "confirm" a members identity but get say 20 or 30 who have been allowed a password, could you imagine what might happen if they all had the time and desire and you post something like (taking from the days of old)...

    "Bottom of trail name, 08:00"

A group of 20 (I have seen that years ago) trying to ride would just be chaos and draw way to much attention. If you must ride the "not to be mentioned" type of trail then it is best to just stick to PM's, phone calls and/or emails.

I remember one time I went to a local spot with 4 other riders, just so happened that ohhhhh, 4 or 5 other groups of 4 to 6 riders decided to go at the same time. It was like someone was handing out free access passes to the masses and riders were scattered from the top all the way to the bottom, it was a F'n madhouse. I just wanted to listen to Anthrax the rest of the day:bang:

As far as having a DH forum, why not just a "Gravity Assisted" forum? :drunk:

I think if there are too many sub forums it will stop me from seeing cool posts that I otherwise would have seen. I don't ride downhill but I'm sure there would be posts in there that I would like to see- except I (and most like me) wont ever go in the downhill forum, so we would miss out. There is not enough time in the day to click on every forum.
