The mall crawler got a bit taller and got bigger shoes. Been wanting to do expedition overland trips....short one even. Anyone done mojave road? Death Valley sounds really nice right now.
That "mall crawler" is no joke. I would also be interested in a Mojave Rd/DV type trip (I took a trip to DV last year but there wasn't any camping involved). I recently added a couple goodies to my "mild offroader" (bigger rubber and some sliders). Just got back from Moab..
I ran it two times back when I had my '73 Bronco. It is not a hard core route unless you attempt extra credit. Some of the surrounding lands have Monument status and any trekking off the road is illegal. Your window of nice weather will be over soon. Both times I used this web site - http://www.desertusa.com/desert-trails/mojave-road-page1.html along with a copy of the "Mojave Road Guide" by Dennis Casebier. I purchased it direct from Tales of the Mojave Road Publishing Co, Goffs Schoolhouse, 37198 Lanfair Road, Goffs Essex, CA 92332. He may have a web site now. The book is loaded with historical info and lists all the good places to stop. Like most adventures, you're on your own for everything. If your truck is in decent shape, you should be fine. We ALWAYS ran with at least two other vehicles complete with ladder racks, tow & pull straps, etc. It's amazing how barren it is in most of the route. I sure wouldn't have enjoyed the trip in the late 1800's.
this was my rig before I sold it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-lamoFbHJTs and my wife driving it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A7olLRB0m8c -=Jason=-
Thanks, I been to the sites and even did a bit of fly over on google earth, looks like lots of side trails to get lost in. I definitely won't be running solo. Like you said the good weather is about to be over, doubt I can make it this year at this rate.
There is nothing difficult on the Mojave Rd. The only possible issue I can think think of is the water crossing at Afton Cyn after a rain?
To my surprise I might have this weekend all to myself.........anyone interested to do a mini overland trip on the mojave road? it's nothing hard but should be pretty epic if you are not into hardcore crawling like me. I just want great scenery and do some exploring. I might run it solo but would be best to run it with at least one other rig.
Already booked for Big Bear. Here's another link for M.R. - if you want to pedal it  http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/mountain-bikes/1678994-pedaling-mojave-road.html
Here is my Rig. 05 LJ on Dana 60s. Was riding on 40s when I used it more at the Hammers. Now I have it set up on 37s and do more long distance overland trips. Its actually a lot more fun now. It can still rock crawl anything but is super stable and drives nice on the highway.
