Reverse night ride. Start at 3 or 4 am and ride it before, and as the sun is rising. Coolest time of the day....

In May it could still be doable if you start early and consider skipping the full sand wash in favor of Vandeventer to Cathedral Cyn to either Cindy's or Wildhorse/Goats. That would cut the most difficult part of the ride which would also be the warmest part. Of course, you would no longer be doing the Palm Canyon Epic, if that matters at all to you. :)

Did it as a full moon night ride a couple years ago. We timed it so the entire sand wash was under full moon and we didn't need our lights on that part. Pretty cool.... except for the temperatures! While the timing for starting the ride that day was perfect it was too early in the fall and it was hot throughout the ride, even finishing at 2am. The sand wash was equally brutal that night, as it seemed somewhat humid and I was sweating like crazy, way moreso than normal. Maybe it just couldn't evaporate as fast as it can when the sun is out? On the other hand the sand was a bit crusty as there had been little traffic so early in the season to loosen it up. But that also meant the cactus and cats claw were out of control as there had not been enough traffic to beat it back. Cholla balls getting flung in all directions off our tires!

I would definitely like to do this again some time though.... it was highly worth it!

I'm up for Noble. Had a blast on last adventure there--a nice general store at the top to shoot for, and fabulous downhill.

Sounds great, let's plan to do this on a full moon with Mikie and a few other choice individuals ;-)
