Are the alarmists the ones who insist on carrying guns or the ones worried about the ones who insist on carrying guns? I can't tell.

Okay, I'll say it: "An armed society is a polite society." If you don't know who is packing, but you know that anyone may be, are you more or less likely to be polite? (yes, I'd prefer concealed carry).

I am not armed and am quite polite. I am likely to be polite to other human beings because they're human beings not because they're packing a gun in their Lee jeans.

Can't argue with that. These guys live in a super polite place.

Maybe USA could one day reach such an idyllic level of politeness, when everyone has to be armed all the time just to make it to the grocery store. Here I am going to pick up some milk.

O what a happy day it will be when our country is finally as polite as this:
Having been to a couple of these armed, polite societies as a member of the well-regulated militia, being necessary to the free state, I sincerely invite anyone to spend a little time in one and see how much more safer you feel, before trying to turn this country into a copy of it.

Also, being one of a very small minority of people who do actually carry concealed, and without a permit, (it's the only thing that'll scare off our more aggressive megafauna up here) everyone should do as I say, not as I do. So :p

Hey - why you gotta be dissin' the Lees? Sure they're the number 3 jeans company, but that doesn't give you the right to imply that they are for people who aren't polite unless they fear for their lives! Lee has had to live in the shadows of Levi and Wrangler for at least 50 years, and now they want what is rightfully theirs - respect - and if they can't get it through clever marketing or superior quality, they will get that respect by force!

(Note: equal opportunity sarcasm intended to make light of the circular reasoning in this thread)

Yes - it's a blast to live in fear! It would be awesome to have to watch what you say and do so carefully for fear of being shot! That IS the premise of the insidious statement that an "armed society is a polite society..."

How about we just learn manners, politeness and respect for our differences the old fashioned way - by valuing, teaching, demonstrating and practicing these things. Interesting that the same people who would actually use that as a slogan would be the first to yell about any laws intended to encourage politeness (as would I).

You kid yourselves if you think those pics are what is discussed as an armed society. Are you saying those people are exercising they're right to carry arms in public? They are at war.

When the state fails to protect it citizens, citizens should be able to protect themselves. http://www.pri.org/stories/2014-01-...heir-government-take-arms-against-drug-cartel

Same thing happened in Ferguson. The police abandoned small businesses. Business owners had to protect themselves. Same thing happened in the LA Riots. Koreans had to protect their livelihood.

There are reasons pro and against the ownership and possession of firearms. I personally believe that they provide a certain amount of personal security and that the constitution recognizes that when shit hits the fan, however unlikely that may be at present, the citizenship should be able to take up arms against chaos and tyranny. Is this system perfect? Apparently not. But it's better than what I've seen anywhere else. One reason why I decided to be American.

Dont even get me started on preparations for a zombie epidemic.

I can't wait to mount my RPG launcher on my mini-van. Traveling on the freeway in SoCal is gonna get seriously exciting when everyone is packing heat. Maybe it's time for a Marauder for my daily commute.

I always come to Socaltrailriders.org for my gun info, just like I go to the NRA.org for my Mtn bike info.

This guy is a regular at the FLoop. It takes too long to unholster a pistol let alone pull one out of a camelbak.
