I'm sure there's a point to go along with this pretty map, but let me preemptively state an opinion and make it clear that a civilized community does not need a bunch if douchebags waving guns around in public places. If you want to carry guns, if you want to smoke weed, if you want to have gay sex, if you want to praise Jesus, all the more power to you. Just be discrete about it, don't be a jerk, and don't throw it in people's faces. http://practicaltacticalpodcast.com/starbucks/
I know for sure you can carry in Texas. Maybe it must be concealed or something. I had a permit a long time ago.
The point is that the map was published today. I found it interesting that one could openly carry without a permit. I did not know that. Personally, I prefer open carry to concealed carry. That is simply a preference. I would rather know someone is armed than not. Not really a big deal, just a preference.
I was in a Wal-Mart in Frisco CO in July. A lovely woman of the type you might expect in Wal-Mart was strapped with a pistol on her belt. I felt so much safer for my wife and 4 yr old! OK, truth be told, I couldn't get out of there fast enough. WTF :?:
I would be scared if you were allowed to open carry in Los Angeles. I believe it would give some people the "cowboy" syndrome and think they can take the law into their own hands. Consealed is the way to go in a highly populated area. Out in the county I wouldn't have a problem with open carry.
There's a big difference between legal open carry and "Douchebags waving guns around." Brandishing is illegal in most places. I lived in AZ from '97-'01, and while I saw plenty of people caring openly, I never once saw anyone waving a firearm around.
The question open carry raises with me is why? I don't see the point of it in nearly all situations, can someone shed some light on this for me?
There is no practical application for open carry for urban environments. In the wilderness, sure. In urban environments, you are just an attention whore. And to the people who say it is a deterrent? It is not. A deranged individual carrying concealed will just shoot you first, before you even realize there is a threat. Concealed is he way to go.
I had a client who rented out apartments to low income families, a lot of whom has no access to banking. He collected rent in cash, and he openly carried doing his job to dissuade robbery. That's one.
