Crazy. I raced BMX at La Mirada in the early 80's too. I wasn't all that good though, but had fun getting hurt there. If I remember my tracks correctly, about mid-point it had a tabletop jump, about 8 feet across. I crashed many times learning to clear that thing.

Me and my buddies also had a sidehack, but never raced it. Whenever we could get a ride, we'd bring it out but it wasn't that often. Whenever we didn't have it and saw people riding theirs, I would just look in awe. I loved being the monkey.

The guy on the far right is my Grandfather.

Near as I've been able to determine, 'Sieger der Meisterschaften von Rheinland' means Cycling Champions of the Rheinland.
That's right, that's how GP rolled. In cap, tie, armbands, really wide leather belt and on a fixie!

and here is my first 'real' mountain bike, circa '89, which is still a blast to ride.

and as far as other off-roading experience....I'm the one driving, on the left.

    More to Come....

Here's a pic of my first "real" bike. I got this in New Zealand. It's a GT iDrive XCR 2000 Shimano Deore, Rock Shox Judy 100, Fox Vanilla Rear Shock, WTB cockpit.
