So for those who are doing the ride, what kind of bike are you taking? Just want to see if me and Dizle are the only fixed riders that are going..

I am bringing gears. I did this ride with someone on a fixed gear bike a while back. I would consider him a strong rider and it was painful to watch. He had a flip flop hub and changed it about halfway through. More power to ya if you can do it fixed, but not me. :)

Hey guys, just a heads up... I talked to Amtrak this past week, and they said that as long as your destination is the Santa Ana station, you can "check" your bike for $10, and be guaranteed a spot.

I'm seriously considering it on my Paddy Wagon. I'll ride the freewheel, not fixed, but I've got a flip flop so I might switch it for the first half. I did the Amtrak Century on that bike a couple years ago freewheel. Those rollers on PCH are nice to coast down and rest the legs on. If I make it I'll pick up the group on Bristol near South Coast Plaza. Wearing a Path Jersey.

Will we need to reserve this ahead of time, or are they cool with a bunch of us showing up with our bikes?

She said we just had to let them know that we need to check our bikes as luggage when we get there. Might be smart to call ahead anyway though...

Aside from a good lunch my 2 cents would suggest taking Grand to Walnut and or Edinger/ICD to either the Harvard bike trail (back bay) or Laguna Canyon. Santa Ana sucks for street riding, not to mention going to Bristol is the opposite direction. If you must go backwards just take washington all the way down to the SART and make the rest of the ride easier. There will be much less traffic and less stoplights.

What time would we catch the train back, or can we reserve a spot for any time on the day?

    FYI,
Just talked to Amtrak and they said that if you want to check a bike, you need to buy a box from them ($12-$15) and pay the $5 bike fee and be there an hour early.

Lol ok cancel the Amtrak reserve thing, well just show up and some of us (me) might have to wait for the next train for all the bikes to fit. Depends on how many heads show up and go the distance

Yeah, I don't mind waiting for the second train. How safe is it putting the bike on the train though, should I bring a bike lock?

I've taken Metro trains before and if its anything like that you just put it in the bike rack thing and sit next to it in the car. No way in hell I'm bringing a lock!
