More of the Eel river Finally under 200 to go. It's funny, I've done over a dozen double centuries in a single days time but this would still take 5 more days of hard riding..... More of the Eel, it really is a beautiful river... I wonder what that compartment was for.... Even a couple groves of Aspens! Back down to the beach Anybody seen my bike? And I don't know why these mountain goats were here but they were.... This was an Osprey but I couldn't get him when he was close Made it to Fort Bragg Leaving Ft Bragg Brian and I got an early start this morning and checked out a light house restored from earlier times.Very well done.... Lightkeepers house. They had a staff of 6 to maintain this place. Back to the beach Eurotourer? I was asked do these shorts make my butt look big? I said lets ask the fine people of STR to decide.... nother Osprey Getting closer... Da Beach... Are we there yet? And this is where my camera battery pack went dead and we had no way to charge it until we got a hotel. The ride was truly incredible and we are all planning more. On the way home we discussed things we would change and they weren't really that many. I have many more pics but wish I'd taken more. I'm not sure where my next long extended trip will be but I plan on doing many overnighters in the local mountain ranges that have camping. All the guys were great to ride with as we've been riding together for many years and would love to do many more tours with them.
The shorts make that particular persons butt weird. Like they are totally being pulled up in to the crack. So the coffee shop not liking people is actually that they don't like hippies, stoners and bikers! I love the photo of Mat and Brian dashing off to the Castro district! Sweeet!:bang: That looks like such a great trip you guys.I recognized much of it! You know you passed some great mountain bike trails. Prairie Creek is one of my favorites! Where were the parents? Next time you go, I'm in. More stories please!
Like bouncing off the hood of a Passat wagon like a ping pong ball? Or perhaps sleeping hobo style in a cone of carpet? Maybe you fancy a Bazooka Bob sighting? Nah, not sure we got anything.
Fantastic week... I totally unplugged. Thanks to all that made it happen. I'll let pics do most of the talkin', try to mix it up a bit from what's already been posted. the crew showing mike how to suck a wheel... WTF get off my ass, Mike! Mike checking out my new tail light  nah, really it's nice having him around to make the trees look even bigger. uh huh
Mike put on a show for us every night before he went to bed at 7:30, this night he made it til dark. da bridge
Story Time At a very opportune place, at a not so opportune time.... long story short: A valet guy shot out in front of Nick, took him out, and Scott and I come around the corner to see him and his gear yard saled all over oncoming lanes of pch... not good. After a 3 hour delay with paramedics, sheriffs, chp, statements, and information/insurance exchange... and a great free lunch courtesy of Nick's Cove (it was their valet), we were back on our way. Some damage, but could've been way worse.
and... 200+ lbs of bike me: How long you been out here? dude: 8 years me: How long you gonna be out here? dude: 'til I die
As usual pictures never capture the steepness of climbs or descents. This turn is the steepness of the Baldy switchbacks.
What a great adventure - I am so jealous as I sit here trying to explain program financial performance to a bunch of dummies (oops, I mean management). Since you started posting your RR and pics haven't been able to concentrate on work - thanks a lot!
Thanks Matt! Those were great!! Poor Nick! You must have been scared as hell! Hope no lingering pain and excellent that the place bought lunch!! The tent and bike in the sand shot is tops!!
Very cool guys. Super jealous. Brings back lots of memories. The feeling of waking up and only needing to ride your bike, day in and day out, is something I will never forget... ...and hope to recapture soon.
Yeah, there's something to be said for waking up in the morning and thinking, the only thing I have to do today is pedal to the next campsite. And then after you warm up a little bit you start seeing all this fascinating scenery that is usually only depicted in works of art. And Burner if I make the trees look bigger they sure make you look smaller!
Great pix, guys! Thanks mucho for sharing. Riding up there in the north woods is really the shitte, eh? BTW, here's an idea for your next tour: Calgary to Vancouver - http://www.summitpost.org/trip-report/531269/cycling-and-scrambling-from-calgary-to-vancouver.html - and, keep in mind while reading this that the guy was a novice tourer at the time! :O
Funny I proposed the reverse of this route already. Prevailing winds should me a west to east trip a bit easier.
