I am not a fan of the Vendor Forum (in its current form) [-X *Why must every thread originating from a vendor's blog appear on the STR Homepage? My concern has NOTHING to do with a particular vendor... It has EVERYTHING to do with the fact (as the vendor forum grows), our HOMEPAGE will be over run by vendor-related threads! *I know of (3) potential "vendors" that are as confused as I am about the vendor forum! -Is it OK to post sale items? -Is it possible to create a STICKY thread (stays in their forum... notifies our members of available sale items) -What if they don't want every event/sale (etc.) from their blog/website to appear on the STR Homepage? -Will members get upset if too many of their ads appear on the Homepage? *The Vendor Forum George has created is different from the one he talked about... (2009?) :-k *What's the harm in using (rotating) banner ads to notify our members of events/sales rather than having multiple threads appear on our Homepage? :?: *What's wrong with using a (psuedo) mtbr-style vendor forum? (allow a select number of vendor threads to appear on the Homepage... Most would appear ONLY in the vendor forum) :?:
Art, I see what you mean. The home page list of threads are just a bunch of lame ads for crappy product. And what about the bike shops that use the Bike Shop Reviews as their place to advertise sales? Here's one example: http://www.socaltrailriders.org/forum/bike-shop-reviews/13266-surf-city-cyclery-5.html
The new vbulletin software and setup works just fine for me. I have two bookmarks: http://www.socaltrailriders.org/forum/search.php?do=getnew This gets me all the new posts in all forums http://www.socaltrailriders.org/cla...page=24&sort=1&stype=&limit=&cat=all&ppuser=0 This gets me all the Classifieds in chronological order. Two clicks, I get to see all that I want. BUT... I really don't want to see the posts in the vendors forum. If I want great deals on gear, I'll just read any of the emails that my usual sources send nearly every day. I don't need any more directed advertising.
Per Dino's comment that was deleted elsewhere, I'm game for establishing sellers' consortium groups and become vendors to essentially take over the home page with our for-sale items like one of the vendors is now doing. Maybe we can get fancy banner ads, too.
Please divide the Wheels section into size categories, 26, 650B, 29er. And make Supersize really SUPERSIZE like this ad, or show sellers how to do it. http://www.socaltrailriders.org/cla...355-on-american-classic-hubs-db-spokes&cat=17
I know there was a not about cleaning up classifieds, but this can be difficult, it's funny depending when I look or from what pc I get different results when I look at my ads.
From the General Announcement earlier today: Classifieds house cleaning We've been getting some complaints about classified ads that are out of date. If you have an ad in the system, please make sure it is current. To do this, go into your ad, click on "Product Options" in the upper right hand corner, select "edit" or "delete" or "Sold it", etc. If your item(s) is still for sale or looking to buy, I recommend stating in your ad "updated on XX/XX/XXXX" (date) Any ad in the system that is older than 30 days and is not updated as stated above will be subject to deletion. PM if you need any help updating an ad. Thank you.
I'd like to strongly suggest/request that you find a way to adjust the ad templates so that any ad for a bike or frame MUST include the size. I can't believe how many ads still get posted without a size listed. It would also be nice if, in order to post an item for sale, the member must have a location listed for themselves. There are lots of cases where I might be interested in an item if I could pick it up locally, but not if it would mean paying for shipping and buying it sight unseen. Thanks!
Since the new forum changes, I can't seem to find the classifieds. How do I get there and can I change it back to what it was?
With the issue STR is having, no one can get to the Classifieds right now. Things are suppose to be getting worked on, but who knows when thing will or if it will come back to normal.
