    I would try never to compromise anything on the front of the bike. People have died from catastrophic failures of a faceplate bolt on a road ride. I know this second hand, as the guy died in my buddy's arms on the side of the road last year. Don't F##k with the front end. In fact, check your faceplates, stems, handlebars and axle regularly.

    No joke...

    And the bolts in the bottom of your fork that keep it from coming apart.
