So I'm reading this thread on MTBR and I come across this link.

    http://www.mtwaterman.org/

    Anyone know anything about this?
    Is it worth it?

I knew it was coming - because a few business acquaintances and I have been putting together a MTB business plan for Waterman/Kratka for the last 2 years.

Hope they have it well planned out. $25 is a bit steep for what they have available.

If it's anything like the trails for skiing, you will make the it back to the bottom in a matter of minutes.

I hope they have some new longer runs planned out.

Also, it seems a bit sketch that there is no contact info other than a weblink to a guy that does Mammoth stuff.

    Hmmm...

This was open a couple of years back, like ten. it was very steep and rocky. Don that runs Fontana DH tried to do a race series up there called MARS. Mountain High Amature Race Series, but Big Bear was still going strong so he couldn't compete.

Notice the pics on the Waterman website. It was a day last year when we where riding up there, it is Annie, Lynn, Nick and I in one picture. http://www.socaltrailriders.org/for...le-bagged-mt-waterman-mt-isip.html#post303789 Pictures where poached Sprockhead. I like Waterman a lot but not sure if I need the lift, the climb up Waterman Trail is pretty nice. Now if they open more trails and put in some jumps and other stunts it may be worth it. We all know that So-Cal needs a bike park.

Waterman Trail is excellent and fairly newbie friendly...except for the climbing, I hope this works out for them and if you need any more pictures PM me I have dozens over the last 5 years.

The Mt. Waterman site list these trails. Would that not be enough for a day of riding? Just curious.

    Mountain Bike Trails:
    Lynn's Flume Ride
    Mt.Waterman Access Road
    Mt.Waterman Trail
    Buck Horn Trail

Don't know what they are talking about with Lynn's Flume or Buck Horn Trails, but not enough for a full day. Burkhart Trail is across the street and that it more than makes a full day.

What we do is to bag Waterman then bag Mt Isip/Little Jimmy then try to bag Dawson Saddle Trails (Throop Peak) to make a day of it. Have not done all three in one day yet...too much snow on Dawson last attempt. Good place to get out of the heat.

Nice! If only this truly starts some good Lift Assisted DH riding in the LA area. Imagine if this takes off and Mt High sees what's going on and opens a park down the 2, how sweet will that be. Oh wait... Those things don't happen.

"Everybody be cool and don't PO the lift operators. They are being lenient with enforcing the 6 inch only no single chain rule. It looks like the one chair ride a day thing isn't gonna happen but to be safe lets just kiss butt a little harder next time".

I was just up at Mt. Waterman yesterday.. Myself and 4 of my buddies were riding our DH bikes all day up there. The fire roads are sweet to ride because you can get a lot of speed and get pretty loose in the corners.. But the guys there said "ride whats on our property, we're looking to build new trails and stunts so you tell us what you want to ride." So we spent the next 4 hours blazing our own trails down some of the sketchiest, steepest, rocky terrain we could find. We built 2 drops and started 2 different expert trails... All the guys up there were really into it, they even had a guy up there filming us so they could put a video on the Waterman website.. $25 bucks is steep if you stay to the fire roads but to have the ability to ride my 8" bike with a lift in So Cal on anything on the property....... I'll pay it over and over again.

oh damn! we need to gather up all the adrenaline junkie's and talk to the owners.... I am really down to help... $25 is really a pretty good deal for me. Bigbear alone costs me $25 just for gas +lift and food :bang: not to mention the regulations

I'm pissed. I was on the ride and I never got into any of the pictures. I say we boycott!

Okay, if the boycott thing doesn't work out I'd do it occasionally and I think it's just what the doctor ordered for my gravity impaired brethren.

Very interesting: Mt. Waterman is a big roundtop summit that is fairly flat with large boulders all over the place. It has the potential of being a huge bike skills area. It would be nice if the operators of Waterman would post on STR. Waterman is the perfect place to escape the heat and has a excellent campground (Buckhorn) across the street...would make a excellent overnighter.

Mt. Waterman is sick. Only took an hour to get there from Northridge. They did not care where we rode. The terrain was a mix between mammoth and snow summit, steep and technical with some singletrack.

THIS looks like it might be interesting... so there aren't many devoloped trails but they're basically looking for rider input on where to build?

Really no trails out there except Waterman Trail, so hopefully they develop the area. Waterman has some steep terrain with a lot of potential. Until then, I hope the downhillers remember that Mt Waterman Trail is a multi use Forest Service Trail and they don't cause trail issues. That area boarders the wilderness and is a jump off spot for Twin Peaks and Devils Canyon. That makes Waterman a rather popular trail with the hikers. I am hoping that they develop runs that will keep people off Waterman Trail.

Mt. Hillyer is where it was supposed to be, but that was a year ago.
