I rode my bike in the Camarillo area. I thought I got a flat tire. I at a stop, I heard the unmistakable hiss of escaping air. However, I was mistaken. I had two flat tires. At home, I removed the front one to patch it and discovered 7 -- count them 7 -- holes in the tube. It is toast -- or more accurately Swiss cheese. Tomorrow, I go tubeless.

    Sounds like goat heads.

You could just get slime tubes.... or buy presta tubes with removable cores and put stans in those.

I once took my whole family for a bike ride around the neighborhood golf course. Didnt even know what goat heads were then. Flatted all 8 tires. Sucks.

Goatheads SUCK! A buddy and I spent the morning clearing trails of goatheads, finally threw in the towel after three+ hours and three+ five gallon cans filled.

As for tubeless, I've had mixed luck with filling tubes with Stans, so don't fully trust that technique on my cross or road bikes. But tubeless if 100% the way to go if you're riding anywhere with goatheads. I don't care about the low pressure you can run with them, or the potential weight savings, but man, puncture resistance is golden!!!

IMHO, there is no reason why anybody is still using tubes. There are just so many advantages to go tubeless. Whether you use Stan's or Specialized tubeless conversion kits it is very simple and works great.

Because they are a PITA if you ride in areas where flats are not an issue. I runs tubeless on my trail bike which I use to travel and explore new areas. I need to replace the fluid every 45-60 days as it dries up in the summer, and that's fine.

But I run DH tubes on my DH bike, and tubes on my 2 other hardtails. I do not want to maintain more than 1 tubeless bike as it just too much to think off and piling on fresh sealant on the dry stuff 4 times a year does not do it for me.

Have you seen a Stans coral? With 4 large corals in your tire, you will start wondering about a strange noise coming outta nowhere :)

I recently switched from Stan's to Orange Seal because I heard Orange Seal was much easier to clean and did not leave all the messy residue. Is this true?

I prefer the Orange Seal to Stan's for three reasons:

    1) It seals just as well as Stan's

    2) no Stan boggers (but it does evaporate)

    3) find a puncture quicker with the orange tint or where air is leaking when you first mount the tire

When you burp a front tire, you may get a new face :)

Being able to run a much lower pressure is one of the advantages, and the fact that in 10 years of riding tubeless I can count the flats with the fingers of one hand... In any case, I was just stating my opinion and experience. If you are happy using tubes, by all means continue to do so...

With the right tire and the right air pressure there is no reason to burp a tire...

Probably not a good reason for most people on this site, but my MTBs are my only bikes and I do quite a bit of riding on the road and hardpack (especially on my 29er) where I can safely run much higher pressure with tubes and not have to worry about blowouts. I'm also a bit on the heavier side of a clydesdale and couldn't run too low even if I was tubeless. If I do more aggressive off-road and trails and need to lower pressure the tubes aren't a problem for 95% of my riding and I don't have to deal with sealant issues but man, sometimes I think it would be nice for those other 5% of the times when I pick up twenty thorns in each tire.

I run tubeless. I normally run 28 psi on Stan's rims and schwalbe tlr tires. I've burped my front tire.

And the whole low psi Schtick, I've run 22, 25, 28 psi for long periods. I find running my front at 30 and rear at 32 offers less squirm better predictability and great grip. I have the imprint of cellphone on my right thigh that tells me you can burp a tlr tire :)

I run run tubeless because pinch flats suck.
